You're only saying that because each one arrives in DC, doing okay because they're lawyers and such, spend their time in office complaining that they have to maintain two residences, yet someone leave office worth tens of millions of dollars? How nearfetched. What's needed is real transparency, and a dormitory system where reps and senators are required to stay, in DC itself -- and everyone else moved out. Solves the "problem" of a lack of representation for people who live in DC of their own free will.
In MA Judges are not elected. So, they are some of the highest paid public people in the commonwealth because they are supposed to be held to the highest level of accountability. If they are not susceptible to bribes, we can trust them.
I am using the same train of thought. I don’t think they need to live like paupers. They have families and lives. They can live where they want.
What I am trying to suggest is that if you pay them a ton and outlaw political contributions, and put a cap on personal wealth, cut out insider trading exclusions, and make them “bribery” safe, we will be better off.
These are supposed to be the best and brightest. We should treat them that way—and expect a lot more from them.
With the anal probe process for anyone wanting to run for Congress, there is no doubt these are not the best people running. We need to change that as well.
