Useful start.
May i add a few things?
No vote total from ANY county in the state is released until EVERY county in the state has reported in 95% of their ballots. (Atlanta cannot “hold up” reporting until they know how many votes are needed to win a state-wide election.)
EVERY voter’s photo ID card is “clipped” for that election when the vote is made and checked. (NO double voting.) (The Driver’s License (for example) is punched for the each year’s primary, election and runoff boxes. The bottom row of the DL has a row of small boxes that are punched mechanically.) Electronic scanning could be more easily done, but that is possible to cheat within the program.
Concerned about electronic fraud? Each electronic ballot is punched mechanically as a physical backup which can be checked by the voter, an those cards are kept separate from the electronic recorders.
Only problem there is that ballots are supposed to be private and only shared at the discretion of the voter, which your suggestion would void completely.
Or we could copy the Iraquis and use the purple fingers.
This is enough.
I have never missed an election. And have voted by absentee ballot for the past 20 years. But if that’s what it takes to get the system in order I will give up that right. I’ll take a trip to Colorado :-) and get my purple finger :-)
Agree. One time vote result report.
