..." We should have nuked a number of German cities."...

The problem with that is the Germans were ahead of us. About the time Germany fell, they sent a sub to Japan with the plans for the German bomb. We intercepted it. It was just a matter of weeks, maybe a few months, before they would have had their own bomb.

My father’s comment: “...said hat a lot of the German soldiers were NOT Nazis, but were common German draftees...”

YOUR comment:”...They wouldn’t have been saying they weren’t Nazis if they had won the war they started...”

I did. And I stand by what I said. If you think I’m calling your a father a liar I’m not, that was his experience. I’m telling my experience from dozens of other WW2 vets. F**k you.

I said they wouldn’t have said that if they had won the war they started. They would have proudly been calling themselves Nazis. They had intention of winning the f**king war!

We should have nuked a number of German cities.

Only one problem, the fallout would have spread across Europe and not just Germany, Japan was more isolated.

And the Krauts complain that Dresden was a war crime.

This isn't Dresden, this was Warsaw in 1945.

Yeah, right? The Luftwaffe did a bang up job, didn’t they? They did a hell of a job burning Rotterdam and Coventry too. But scratch every Kraut under the skin about Dresden and it becomes a wailing chorus of “Dresden had no military value! Dresden was a war crime!’’ 70 years on and they still don’t get it.

But how would have delivered it? On a V2? Probably could have.

...." the fallout would have spread across Europe and not just Germany, Japan was more isolated."....

They didn't know that at the time. We even had soldiers too close to our test blasts because we had no idea how bad the fallout would be.

I also imagine at the time, FDR would have gladly dropped one on Berlin to end the war sooner. Up until a few months before Berlin fell, we weren't doing all that good in the war. About 60 million had died at the end of the war so a miracle bomb would have been welcomed at the time.

Also, just saying "NUKE!" gets a reaction from most that would have been unreasonable today. The bombs in Japan were very small compared to today. Japan rebuilt the two targets and people live there today. A uranium bomb is nothing compared to plutonium. Kilotons is NOT Megatons. More people died in Dresden than in Hiroshima. Hiroshima had one plane at risk while Dresden used many dozens.

One thing that changed is we have tech today to put a nuke in a 105 artillery shell. It's not talked about in public today, but if push came to shove, the military would use a small nuke if they had to. Most of us have been conditioned to visualize a 1000 Megaton going off in NYC but many don't imagine a 10 kiloton in a specific military strike. For some reason the economy of losing 10,000 soldiers to take out a hardened target seems better than a cruise missile in a 10 minute flight.

David Barton is an American treasure. I would advise any patriot to buy his whole library. We home schooled our daughter and used his books and DVD's many times and still watch them today.(she's 34 today) His resources should be in all public schools today.

He has proven, through original authors that 90% of our founders were devoted Christians by their own writings. Today's books, even reprints of the original authors, leave out things we find offensive today. When you see a quote, look for "...." and then find the original quote and see they leave out parts about God. They leave out the "God" parts so they can swear the Founders were NOT Christians but deists or even atheists. They quote a person, then put the "...." in the quote so they can quote the person without quoting them. Any book written after about 1960 does this. Get a school book from the 1950's or before and the full quotes will be there.

Barton just reprints the original quote, usually by the original author. When arguing about a Founder, we see a person raised in the schools system today will use these doctored quotes to make their case, never knowing there is more to the actual quote.

Find an original printing of Alexis de Tocqueville's "Democracy in America" and it will be over an inch thicker than what kids read today, (if they ever have to read it anyway.) Arguing with a PHD in political science today is futile because the references they use have been rewritten after the 1960's. Same books, different quotes.

Actually, the Sherman gets a lot of bad press (probably some of it from that Hollywood tripe movie), but it was actually ideally suited for fighting in Europe. Being narrow due to having been designed for the auto assembly lines, and fast due to gasoline engines and fairly light armor, it could zip down lanes between hedgerows and take pretty much any road available, including those narrow village streets with medieval layouts. The German tank crews had to rely on the rather smaller number of heavier modern roads to move, and of course wound up heavily outnumbered (the US built somewhere north of 30,000 Shermans), outrun, outflanked. I'm not entirely without a dog in this fight, as one of my mother's dearest first cousins was the only survivor of his Sherman crew.
