I don’t understand this idea that turkey gets wasted...

We never had enough, not even when we butchered free range turkeys for my grandmother and she gave us the biggest one, which dressed at well over 50 lbs ... we had to remove the legs from it just to get it into the oven... and oh, was it juicy. So good every bit of him was devoured right down to the parson’s hat.

That’s a good idea about canned veggies to extend dry dog kibble. IMHO, that’s all they’re good for, LOL!

Oh, of course, I’d eat them in a pinch, and I can tolerate Creamed Corn from a can - but I REALLY dislike canned vegetables; all the flavor and vitamins are cooked out of them. And I am someone who is NOT a picky eater.

LOL! I can live without Pumpkin Spice - ANYTHING.

Except Pumpkin Pie, of course! :)

Those fruity beers that Leinenkugel (WI Brewer) make are disgusting, too. Blech!

I can tolerate Blue Moon - love the orange and cilantro in that. ;)

Great idea! Beau would LOVE that!

BUT, it STILL entails the time and effort needed to chop up a @#$%^&*! watermelon, LOL!

Yeah, they’re not the best BUT I usually get 2 year shelf life (or more).

Just opened a can that had a sell-by date of July, 2016. Beans, no problem at all.

1) I always make sure the can isn’t swollen
2) I always bring to a boil when cooking

Big cans of dog food (other than my dry supply) are 99 cents to $1 regularly here. So if I can buy a few extra items. they’re actually cheaper to extend the canned dog food. Cap it off and into the fridge.

And I usually mix with dry and some water. I found a 20lb bag of dry dog food for about $5.15 on a closeout. Oh yeah, I grabbed it.

I love that idea, though my Mom (81!) STILL wants to have a Turkey. I’m making Pumpkin Pie (homemade, from pie pumpkins that we grew) and a side dish with cubed Butternut Squash, Cranberry & Apples). We’ll have the standard mashed taters, gravy, stuffing, etc.

She’s working on it this weekend, then she puts white meat in one crockpot and dark in another...and both are amazingly moist and yummy.

She’s a demon with her electric knife and awesome carving skills! Stand back, LOL!

Now that it’s ‘winter’ (it’s already snowed twice and has been below freezing for a WEEK so far) I put water in the kibble for the outdoor (kenneled) hunting dogs to keep them better hydrated. They have to DRINK to get to their kibble.

Works like a charm. :)

20# of dog food? We buy ours by the PALLET. Seriously. We do. We have eight dogs in the kennel runs for hunting raccoon, bear and coyote (everyone has their ‘job’) and one that likes to run all day, so he’s outside on the chain with his own Doggy Condo.

Then, we have two inside dogs - but one has skin allergies and has to eat the REALLY expensive cr@p, and our Beagle is so FAT, that he’s on Diet Doggy Food, also expensive.

But, all the kids are grown and gone, so we have to spend our vast wealth somewhere, I guess, LOL!

Me thinks that most of the millennials don’t know how to cook in the first place.

So they don’t even have a clue as to what to do with the leftovers. They think that anything left over that isn’t eaten on Thanksgiving is thrown in the trash.

To them, soup is something that you pour out of a can and deciding what is for dinner is picking out the restaurant.

Only have my Mom’s (RIP) two inside dogs. The smallest one sticks to me like a postage stamp. It’s a miracle I got them back. He sure brings me a lot of joy.

Luv turkey leftovers esp pot pie and Turkey hash and soup. My bird is 14 lb fresh. My parents were frugal. Took 5 days to defrost that huge frozen beast. Not too many big birds in the store this year.

Just had a thought; (dangerous I know) if a person just cut the melon in half then using a hand/stick blender in each half then would only have to pour it through a strainer into the pitcher. Need to try my theory someday for a less mess and time saver...

Ditto. First time I had a home cooked turkey and none in ham was at in-laws. Changed my life and way of cooking. When the parents got old I took over thanksgiving. 20 with merged families.I have a big dining room. Sadly so many passed away including mom who died near thanksgiving. Holidays not same.
