FULL TITLE: Mother who was encouraged to abort her unborn baby because medics thought he had Downs Syndrome warns others to get a second opinion after he was born perfectly healthy
The adamant Mum and her partner, Johnathan, 30, who had already suffered the devastation of a miscarriage, were both infuriated by the doctors response and refused the termination, but were left in complete shock when their son Jay was born healthy.
Jordan, a stay-at-home mum, said: 'When we attended my 12-week-scan, I knew straight away something was wrong because the midwife seemed to be concerned.
'She asked if we could go into a side room and that someone would be along to talk to us.
'They told us that the baby was highly likely to have Downs Syndrome due to the large amount of fluid that was placed high on the back of his neck.
'Straight away I was told that they advised terminating the pregnancy without giving us any other options or support.
'We were so angry and we told them where to go.
'There was no way I was going to do that, we had waited so long for this baby and we would love our child regardless of the disability.
'I was furious that they were encouraging people to do that and if it had been someone different then they could of been persuaded by the doctors, then they would have ended a healthy pregnancy.'
The couple were so determined to carry on with the pregnancy that they refused to have a amniocentesis test, which involves using a large needle to extract and test amniotic fluid from the uterus and can cause miscarriages.

My friend 50 years ago was told by the doctors that her baby was dead or would be a FREAK because they hadn’t heard a heartbeat for a while and they wanted her to abort it......she said NO and that girl is a 50 year old WOMAN with kids and Grandkids!! She was PERFECT....NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!
Thank you for sharing that story...just wow
It is a shame that countries like Iceland celebrate they have no new cases of Down’ Syndrome.
'There was so much pressure on us to have a termination with no offer of us having support or advice should we want to carry on.
'They even said we could get the ball rolling then and there and it just doesn't give people time to take everything in.
'When you've been told your baby has a disability you're obviously in a vulnerable position and it can be easy to make quick rash decisions.

Better compliance that way. Anything to keep costs down (or at least shift them to important treatments like trans surgeries). Evil. And if enough people get an independent streak like this couple, there will be other ways concocted to prevent expensive resource-hogging babies from being born.
Frightening to consider that the medical personal responsible for pre-natal care are the same who try to "reason with" parents to destroy babies. So suddenly they will care about the life of the unborn, or of an uppity mother?
Often the doctors are wrong.
21+ years ago we were told the same thing.
Daughter is now in her third year of college and has graduated at or near the top of her class since beginning high school!
I wonder how often this happens, because the same thing happened to a couple from my church.
I don’t remember how many months along the lady was, but there was a test done and the doctors recommended an abortion rather than being ‘burdened with an imperfect child’.
The couple refused this horrible advice, said pretty much the same as this couple in the story, and at the end of a normal pregnancy, their baby girl was born without Down syndrome.
Abortion....another name for eugenics
Our opinions (or doctor’s) matter not. Every child is a miracle and God’s child.
When my daughter was expecting her first baby, she selected a clinic that had a good reputation. Each monthly visit had a different doctor though. During a visit in her 5th month, the doctor said she wasn’t pregnant at all, or that the baby died in her womb. He examined her and decided her uterus was only 12 week size.
She insisted she was most definitely pregnant, and that 1at her last visit, she heard the baby’s heartbeat, she could feel the baby moving, and her abdomen was expanding.
The doctor insisted that what she was saying was impossible.
He was a young fella, and it was obvious to me that this guy really didn’t know what he was doing, had an uptight attitude about pregnancy, and zero bedside manner.
When we left after the appointment, we squabbled at each other like furious cats. And then a thought struck me. I asked my daughter “if everytime we come here we get so anxiety filled, can you imagine what your birth experience will be like?”
Light dawned on marble head. We looked up a different dr. In the phone book, called it and asked if we could just have a consultation, meet the doctor and see if we feel comfortable with him.
We had an appointment within 2 hours. He was a perfect fit for us, he examined her and the baby was fine. She simply had a retroverted uterus which made all of her pregnancies difficult to palpate.
Doctors are humans, not Gods. Most do their best, but there are some real jerk offs out there. Some have no place being doctors, and make better medical transcriptionists that doctors in spite of being really good people.
And then there are those who are so bad, they should run as fast as the can down a short pier and jump into 50 ft. Waves.
If we hadn’t have been prolife people, our beloved granddaughter wouldn’t exist today, neither would her wonderful twin babies, and countless other children by the hundreds would not have benefitted from her wonderful uniqueness as a human being, a teacher, and a Principal of her school.
A young fella she dated wouldn’t have survived the devastating accident that forever changed him. And she did that ad great personal risk.
One never knows what the future holds for any individual. Abortion is a curse on ALL of humanity as it destroys blessings given, but never received.
We were told something similar while living in Belgium. We also refused the amniocentesis test. She’s perfectly healthy, a straight-A student, and a sweet young lady.
Much of the time the March of Dimes is behind this move.
