Every single person I’ve heard of with a newsweek magazine has been a drooling idiot.

My dad, four years before he passed on at age 84...had some neighbor come over to the farm, and demonstrate the AR-15. Every rifle/shotgun in the house was produced between 1940 and 1960. After a 15-min demonstration...he went out the next week and bought one.

So, you go through the advantages...requiring a rifle for farm protection (typically coyotes, wild dogs, etc), and it meets your needs. For someone with arthritis, the handle makes it easy to pick up and handle. Using the clip to load your bullets made perfect sense.

My brother made a comment about a year or two after that....that within ten miles of the farm, there were probably 250 farms/residences...that now had a AR-15. My humble guess is that by 2030...near 90-percent of farmers in the US in rural areas....will have a minimum of one AR-15.

Nina's been hanging out with the wrong crowd.

Hey, Nina! Get a new set of friends! And take a long vacation, in a place with no television, no movies, no internet, no contact with the outside world! You need a rest!

I use a Ruger mini 14. Same calibur but in a different package. But the enemy media couldn’t care less about the Ruger rifle. Guess it isn’t scary enough looking.

The Ruger Rimfire would go over the ‘scare’ point. LOL.

Someone should do a PhD study on ‘scare’ factor, and rate the 1,000-odd rifles sold in America...giving them each a rating. In fact, there should be a urban-dweller ‘scare’ rating and a ‘rural-dweller ‘scare’ rating.

That’s why this person has grown up(?) only to become a lowly journalist. The bus missed the stop at the brain store.

I, for one, am discouraged.

Only 15 million AR15s out there? There are at least 150 million law-abiding citizens out there with no AR. If we are going to defend ourselves against the Latin American gangs and drug cartels, not to mention terrorists, that the DemocRats are bringing into the country, we need a lot more than 15 million!

Oh, they are after the Ruger Mini 14, as well, simply because it employs a detachable magazine. That is why they are also after all the semi-auto pistols, as well.

When I was in my mid-20's, the Mini-14 was becoming the hot ticket for local farmers who had been making do with various lever-/bolt-rifles and trad shotguns. It was light and handy, but just as importantly, it was still in the old tradition of steel and wood. A few of the younger guys who had used the M16 in the service had Colt semiauto AR's, but they were few enough in number to be conspicuous. I picked up the first of a number of Mini-14s around the time I got married, and while it wasn't any great shakes for accuracy, it was an easy carbine to live with.

One day a friend of mine demonstrated his Colt AR15 with a cheesy-looking, handle-mounted, short 4x scope, and it shot rings around my Mini-14. That AR rig - not a precision one by any means - could hit ground squirrels far out in the pasture to a degree that was astonishing to me. I continued to be a Mini-14 guy for years because I had grown fond of them, but eventually, the AR platform - which I still don't have much affection for - replaced the little Ruger.

And for the record, I'm not a mass murderer, or even a one-and-done murderer. Ms Burleigh is wrong yet again.
