Here is the original article where this appeared:

https://nationalseedproject.org/white-privilege-unpacking-the-invisible-knapsack

Here is the text:

1. I can if I wish arrange to be in the company of people of my race most of the time.

2. If I should need to move, I can be pretty sure of renting or purchasing housing in an area which I can afford and in which I would want to live.

3. I can be pretty sure that my neighbors in such a location will be neutral or pleasant to me.

4. I can go shopping alone most of the time, pretty well assured that I will not be followed or harassed.

5. I can turn on the television or open to the front page of the paper and see people of my race widely represented.

6. When I am told about our national heritage or about “civilization,” I am shown that people of my color made it what it is.

7. I can be sure that my children will be given curricular materials that testify to the existence of their race.

8. If I want to, I can be pretty sure of finding a publisher for this piece on white privilege.

9. I can go into a music shop and count on finding the music of my race represented, into a supermarket and find the staple foods that fit with my cultural traditions, into a hairdresser’s shop and find someone who can cut my hair.

10. Whether I use checks, credit cards or cash, I can count on my skin color not to work against the appearance of financial reliability.

11. I can arrange to protect my children most of the time from people who might not like them.

12. I can swear, or dress in second-hand clothes, or not answer letters, without having people attribute these choices to the bad morals, the poverty, or the illiteracy of my race.

13. I can speak in public to a powerful male group without putting my race on trial.

14. I can do well in a challenging situation without being called a credit to my race.

15. I am never asked to speak for all the people of my racial group.

16. I can remain oblivious of the language and customs of persons of color who constitute the world’s majority without feeling in my culture any penalty for such oblivion.

17. I can criticize our government and talk about how much I fear its policies and behavior without being seen as a cultural outsider.

18. I can be pretty sure that if I ask to talk to “the person in charge,” I will be facing a person of my race.

19. If a traffic cop pulls me over or if the IRS audits my tax return, I can be sure I haven’t been singled out because of my race.

20. I can easily buy posters, postcards, picture books, greeting cards, dolls, toys, and children’s magazines featuring people of my race.

21. I can go home from most meetings of organizations I belong to feeling somewhat tied in, rather than isolated, out-of-place, outnumbered, unheard, held at a distance, or feared.

22. I can take a job with an affirmative action employer without having co-workers on the job suspect that I got it because of race.

23. I can choose public accommodations without fearing that people of my race cannot get in or will be mistreated in the places I have chosen.

24. I can be sure that if I need legal or medical help, my race will not work against me.

25. If my day, week, or year is going badly, I need not ask of each negative episode or situation whether it has racial overtones.

26.I can choose blemish cover or bandages in “flesh” color and have them more less match my skin.

OK, now try being a white person in an all-black neighborhood and take this as a "Black Privilege Test."

I bet white people would have a harder time than black people in an all-white area.

No worry, dp0622: I'm sure that eastexsteve will be more than happy to provide a brief (say, 500-word) summary of the issue, followed by a concise and cogent analysis. Regards,

Better yet, maybe I should have just dictated all of it to a sound file and just uploaded it here. That way, they wouldn't have to expel the energy needed to raise their eyelids.

Thanks. But, the revealing thing to me is that they titled this as a “white privilege exercise.” Then, they make all the employees stand up in front of everybody and reveal their scores. The obvious objective is to discriminate and shame the white employees. My question would be: “OK, now where’s the “black privilege exercise?”

As much as I hate google, and cloud based traps... I will agree that it is harmless, except for the fat the it is google capturing the IPs that read it :p

I have to work with these google drive clouds every day :/

(against my better judgement)

To: eastexsteve; All
>...the employees are made to stand up in front of the whole group and display their "test results."

Here's me, in this situation, at least in my imagination...

"Comrades, I wish to thank the Political Officer for such unflagging diligence in showing myself and my fellow Proles where we fall short of proper culturally diverse thought.

I'm afraid that I had a hard time with some of the questions and because I sincerely don't want to affect the collective metrics with false scores I have annotated some of the questions so I may be enlightened further to the ideas of the Collective."

>1. I can if I wish arrange to be in the company of people of my race most of the time.

"May I suggest that I don't "arrange to be in the company of people of my race", I just am, nothing is preplanned. I do arrange to be in the company of people who share my interests and at least follow the basic principles of civilized behavior as prescribed by both moral laws and the laws of the Republic. 5

>2. If I should need to move, I can be pretty sure of renting or purchasing housing in an area which I can afford and in which I would want to live.

I can be absolutely, positively 100% sure of renting or purchasing housing in an area which I can afford and in which I would want to live. Who in there right mind wouldn't ? 5

>3. I can be pretty sure that my neighbors in such a location will be neutral or pleasant to me.

I would consider it a matter of utmost priority to live in such a location. 5

>4. I can go shopping alone most of the time, pretty well assured that I will not be followed or harassed.

"...followed or harassed" by whom ? I know that I will certainly be followed by closed circuit video cameras from the moment I enter most stores or watched by store employees, or at least I should be, as effective loss prevention means a lower bottom line to the store's profits and should be reflected in it's retail prices. On the other hand, if I were to be "followed or harassed" by somebody I thought to be a threat to my property or physical security I would take steps to secure the help of law enforcement or private security and seriously consider not being in that area in the future. 5

>5. I can turn on the television or open to the front page of the paper and see people of my race widely represented.

Unfortunately, the media as represented by television and newspapers, as well as social media see fit to denigrate people of my race and we are widely represented as villains. 0

>6. When I am told about our national heritage or about “civilization,” I am shown that people of my color made it what it is.

People of my color (Caucasian) made it what it is thanks to over 2,000 years of European "civilization" and over 250 years as a Free Republic on the North American Continent. 10

>7. I can be sure that my children will be given curricular materials that testify to the existence of their race.

Given the state of "curricular materials " in most public school systems it is much more likely that such materials will denigrate their race. 5

>8. If I want to, I can be pretty sure of finding a publisher for this piece on white privilege.

Why in the world would I possibly want to ? I'm sure that there are scores of useful idiots that would. 5

>9. I can go into a music shop and count on finding the music of my race represented, into a supermarket and find the staple foods that fit with my cultural traditions, into a hairdresser’s shop and find someone who can cut my hair.

I listen to the music of ALL races, rap crap and hop-hip excluded, it's a little hard to find czarnina around here and I've been bald for decades, although I still go to a barber to have my beard trimmed when it gets too long, something I've found any barber capable of doing. 5

>10. Whether I use checks, credit cards or cash, I can count on my skin color not to work against the appearance of financial reliability.

I've found that having a savings account and a deed to my house works just fine. 5

>11. I can arrange to protect my children most of the time from people who might not like them.

I really don't care if you like my kids or not, they are secure enough in their own self worth not to worry about what other people think, but cross the line to threaten physical violence and if you do you will be in for a world of hurt, both by the American justice system, Law Enforcement and Misters Smith and Wesson. 10

>12. I can swear, or dress in second-hand clothes, or not answer letters, without having people attribute these choices to the bad morals, the poverty, or the illiteracy of my race.

I can swear with the gusto of a Marine drill Sargent, not that I've ever been in the service but find that such vocabulary is not suited among civilized people, I wear very comfortable clothes that might pass for second or even third-hand but I will put on a suit coat and tie to go to a Wedding, Funeral or important reception out of respect for the occasion, and, junk mail excluded, more often than not I will pick up the telephone and call the person who sent me a letter. I feel a chat is much more up-close and personal. I also consider it very bad form not to take the time to say "Thank You". All these example have nothing to do with poverty or racism, they have everything to do with how I was raised and having the common sense as to how to react in society. 10

>13. I can speak in public to a powerful male group without putting my race on trial.

I frequently do speak in public and have never even considered "power", "sex" or "race" to be a factor in anything. My most important consideration is how well I've prepared my presentation. 5

>14. I can do well in a challenging situation without being called a credit to my race.

I enjoy solving problems that develop from challenging situations and never has my race entered into anything, nor do I consider it to be a factor in others accomplishments. 5

>15. I am never asked to speak for all the people of my racial group.

Never have, never will be. 5

>16. I can remain oblivious of the language and customs of persons of color who constitute the world’s majority without feeling in my culture any penalty for such oblivion.

I am quite familiar with the customs of the world's majority and such knowledge makes me consider that I am so incredibly blessed to live in a civilized culture at the zenith of its nadir instead of living in some third-world pit of excrescence. God bless Western Civilization ! As far as other languages, that's what web based translators are for - why would I even think I would want or need to learn Swahili ? 5

>17. I can criticize our government and talk about how much I fear its policies and behavior without being seen as a cultural outsider.

Under President Trump I have absolutely no need to talk about how much I fear it's policies, however I DO fear the policies and behavior of the democrat party in as much as the desire to bring Communism to the United Stated by cultural outsiders would be a disaster. 10

>18. I can be pretty sure that if I ask to talk to “the person in charge,” I will be facing a person of my race.

I fervently hope that if I ask to talk to “the person in charge,” I will be facing a person of competence, whatever their race and not somebody unqualified for such power only because that person was of the "right" race. 10

>19. If a traffic cop pulls me over or if the IRS audits my tax return, I can be sure I haven’t been singled out because of my race.

If a traffic cop pulls me over I can at least assume that he thought I was doing something illegal and I'm at least smart enough to know that by giving him lip the situation will not get any better for me and the best thing I could do in such a situation is to show respect and, if need be settle things in a court of law. In the case of the IRS, talk to my lawyer. 5

>20. I can easily buy posters, postcards, picture books, greeting cards, dolls, toys, and children’s magazines featuring people of my race.

Why shouldn't I be able to do so ? If you can't, have you considered the fact that you may be among the demographic that does not spend money on such things in enough quantity to make the production of these items profitable, and if it was, race would not be a factor ? 5

>21. I can go home from most meetings of organizations I belong to feeling somewhat tied in, rather than isolated, out-of-place, outnumbered, unheard, held at a distance, or feared.

If I were to belong to an organization where I felt isolated, out-of-place, outnumbered, unheard, held at a distance, or feared I would definitely not be a member of such a group. 5

>22. I can take a job with an affirmative action employer without having co-workers on the job suspect that I got it because of race.

Check you premise at the door. If I were to try to get a job with an affirmative action employer I would immediately be disqualified because of my race. 5

>23. I can choose public accommodations without fearing that people of my race cannot get in or will be mistreated in the places I have chosen.

Again, check you premise. Such behavior has been illegal for several decades. 5

>24. I can be sure that if I need legal or medical help, my race will not work against me.

Yes. Your point is ? My financial status might be a factor, however, whatever my race. 5

>25. If my day, week, or year is going badly, I need not ask of each negative episode or situation whether it has racial overtones.

If you feel you have to ask such a racist question you are definitely a racist. 5

26.I can choose blemish cover or bandages in “flesh” color and have them more less match my skin.

I couldn't care less about covering my blemishes and my bandages have tended to be white gauze held on by white surgical tape. So what ? 5

Comrades, I am proud to say that my total score is 150 !

If anybody doesn't like that fact they can go flip themselves, see if I care.

Thank you, thank you very much !

The people who came up with those 26 questions or statements have some extremely serious issues and really need to get serious mental help. It has nothing to do with their race, but how they seem to attribute their sense of self to their race.

Frankly, I think it's more than a little bit disgusting, and I think that the REAL civil rights leaders of the 1960s would be disgusted by it as well.
