I cannot fathom having a dress I wear for only ONE occasion.
I wear it to multiple ones, especially if it’s not the same people and nobody has seen it before.
I have favorites in my clothes selection and people who don’t want to see me wear the same thing twice don’t have to look at me.
My second wedding dress did double duty. Since I had been married before I didn’t need a gown. I went with a lovely cranberry colored Laura Ashley frock that I wore again to a Christmas party the following year.
It’s still in my closet. It’s been over 25 years, but I will wear it one more time before I die. Size 6 - I’ll get there one day.
Are you a BILLIONAIRE??
Im working on creating a capsule wardrobe using mostly what I already have so each item gets worn often. The challenge of creating different looks with a minimalist approach is kind of fun and I love having space between the hangers even in my small closet. I sometimes wonder if people notice that I wear the same few basic pieces often, but I figure that if I dont track what others wear they probably dont track what I wear.
Until quite recently my kids (and myself) have had almost exclusively second (or third...fourth...) hand clothing. The most expensive items in my daughters closet for the past 8 years have been their dance costumes, each worn once for the recital. Ive gotten used to it, but for the first few years that thought gave me a mild anxiety attack ;-).
I've purchased some very expensive garments on sale with tremendous savings and then just alter them to my taste. Melania Trump does this as well. I bought a $1,000 black velvet gown on a mark down rack in a better dresses store. Changed the neckline, and other minor alterations, hem, waist etc. to fit.....When all was said and done...for shoes, jewelry, purse, gown and the alterations I spent $200.
Later I had it made into a cocktail dress.
