I was having a pizza at a table, when a waiter presented the check to the table next to me, as the [normy] family of five got up to leave. "We don't have any money", and left the restaurant. (The area is full of tourists). The waiter immediately complained to the owner, who shrugged his shoulders.

Who wouldn’t call the police in that situation (where people simply walk away without paying)? It is a CRIME - and the paying customers end up footing the bill.

In my younger days, there were still ethnic clubs in my town where Irish, Scottish, or Portuguese people could socialize with their own. A few still survive, and they are immune to this BS; nobody walks out on a tab, because they are either members themselves or guests of members.
