Musta been in office when they tore down Cabrini Green.
“”Thought it was 17 years but anyway, mom must have had quite a professional job to qualify those SS numbers 23 years ago””
1994-2017 - 23 years - $1500+ per month. I don’t know how the other poster came up with 17 years. The mother COULD have had a very good paying job OR she could have put off retiring until later instead of taking SS at age 65 - that choice added considerably to some retirees monthly benefit before the age was changed.
I wonder if the guy’s life style reflected more than his salary as a city employee. If so, no one questioned it? Or could be as a cop, he was considered to be on the take and in Chicago, no big deal? Is he being asked for restitution?
Mama died, he cashed the checks? Or direct-deposited into an account he controlled?
Never mind, I read the rest.

“”A third possibility is that she was collecting on husbands income.””
Absolutely true - how come none of us thought of that? It didn’t even cross my mind. I guess we can assume her husband was deceased or the son wouldn’t have been receiving her SS benefits...
Good thinking! It sure shows how easy it is to grab onto something without expanding on the first thought that comes to mind.
Those cop’s comments are well worth reading. Thanks for the link.
Update. See below link, the bit about “Going to Need More Popcorn”.
