Yup. Could have happened 7999 years ago, with the light not reaching us yet.
And since we are seeing the “spiral” of the rotation that means we are are staring down the barrel of a gun if that star goes supernova.....
When will it have already happened so we can watch?
Of course. Funny, but when you think of things this way, the light from our sun - from the day we were born, won't reach a place that far away until long after our lives on Earth have finished.
That was my thought. For all these jokers know it blew up before noah built his ark.
If it happened 8000 years ago (to the day), we’d be seeing the explosion right now. If the explosion happens right now, astronomers 8000 years from now will finally get to see it.
