I was training in the Peace Corps to go to Afghanistan, nearly 50 years ago. As a precaution against getting bitten by a rabid critter we got two or three rabies shots in the arm. We were told that they were 80% effective against contracting rabies if we couldn’t get to India to get real medical treatment. The shots hurt going in, I remember my arm muscles spasming even while the needle was still in. Glad to hear they aren’t so bad anymore.

I had to have a series of three. The needles were tiny and the shots were over quickly.

I’ve tried to spread the word because a lot of people think that they’re still painful and given in the stomach.
