The preliminary investigation shows a girl was walking home from elementary school with her adult brother yesterday afternoon around 3:45. They were approached by a man and a woman at the intersection of Pine Spring Road and Meadow View Road. The pair offered a treat to the girl and motioned her towards them.
Maybe I'm missing something, but the description says this girl was walking home with her adult brother and this couple offered the kid some treat. How does this amount to something sinister? I assume most child-snatchers don't try to do it right under the nose of an adult with the child. Could have been perfectly harmless.

Unless the adult older brother is, what’s the politically correct term these days, developmentally disabled. If true, and the perps were aware of it, say through surveilling the child, then the perps might have felt safe in trying it.
Still, it was risky. If this happened, wonder why the perps went after this particular child?

“Could have been perfectly harmless.”
Total strangers offering a treat along the road to a child?
No.

Perhaps the adult brother was lagging behind the little girl but keeping her in sight as she frolicked ahead. The suspects may not have seen him and then taken off when he ran up to her after they approached.

"Adult" is loosely interpreted these days. I can't think of a legitimate reason for anyone who does not know a child to approach in that manner. This is a classic case of an attempted kidnapping. It seems that the police think so as well.
Would you do such a thing?

Spoke with a detective I knew when I lived there. He said the brother was not side-by side with sister, the sister was doing what children do, run ahead and play and he kept pace with her. Likely the criminals were not aware she was with him.
