I’ve had romaine-based salads three of the last four nights. Waiting for my heart to explode or my head to pop off. Not sure which is more likely.

The source of a 2013 outbreak of contaminated greens was purposely hidden from the public until after the greens were out of the distribution system. This was done to avoid discouraging people from eating ‘fresh vegetables’.

Once some time has passed, the specific sources of this contamination will also be revealed, even though they are known now.

For the most part, the packaged salads are washed in a mildly chlorinated water, then rinsed as they are packaged and chilled. Contamination is more likely to occur in the organic market where pre or post harvest treatments classified as chemical is avoided.

I ate a salad and sandwich every day for lunch at work. Romaine lettuce was in all of them. I’m doomed

I was eating a romaine salad when I heard about the recall. I finished eating the salad and I am fine.

I stopped ever eating any salad in cheap cafes in Eastern Washington, though, after twice having issues the next day.
