I watched mere seconds of the new Magnum and turned it off. Knew something wasn’t right about the star and then I read on FR a few days ago that he’s gay.

I haven't watched it and won't watch it - how could it be as good as the original? But per IMDB the star Hernandez is happily married to a woman.

Anything funny is going to offend someone. Then Twitter explodes and there are apologies. Then people get fired and the creative talent is gone. So the alternative is to reboot old successful stories and get people in with nostalgia. That right there is no substitute for actual humor but it gets people looking at the screen.

One thing the executives need to learn is that Twitter is unimportant. Twitter explosions really are fleeting and if you wait 20 minutes it will be something else exploding. But the people in charge are not tech savvy for the most part and any negative publicity requires an immediate response for damage control. So they act on the tweets and make rash decisions or they dumb down the content so much that nobody is ever going to enjoy watching. It’s like eating cold cereal with water instead of milk.

As the technology to recreate a person as a true-to-life avatar is perfected, does the possibility exist to add new material, faithful to an original production?
