A friend today was telling me of an acquaintance who had to abandon his car and he decided to follow a fox that crossed the road and headed downslope to a stream at the bottom of the canyon. Apparently the fire flashed over him and he survived. My friend's daughter and husband live in Magalia and their house was spared. They were able to evacuate with their children, pets and a few valuables. Fortunately, their house wasn't looted while they were away.
The "Skyway" into Paradise is still littered with dead vehicles that haven't yet been cleared.
The stories people are telling of bravery and heroism are just incredible.
Driver of the bulldozer turned himself from a hero into a disgrace by saying he only had room for one or two. I don’t care how you’re doing it, everyone’s getting out on that vehicle.
A few minutes ago a friend of mine posted photos from the beach in Malibu on Facebook. Only about 4 people on the beach this afternoon.
He said they had emergency electricity, and cell but essentially everything is still out. He got away with his dog, a horse and a donkey but lost about 30 other animals, his house and vehicles.
(Runs and hides)
The smoke and fire and sparks are sort of beautiful in a horrifying sort of way.
