That’s quite fascinating considering the fact that Johnson was dead and six feet below the Texas Hill Country when Nixon resigned.
Without POTUS on it, it’s not AF1 anymore. It will fly a regular call number and be another government plane.
We have a few of these planes too.. I’m surprised this gesture isn’t being ridiculed because of how easy it is for PJDT to just get on another one at a moment’s notice.
I am tired of these Elaborate state funerals for former Presidents. Why should we the tax payers be on the hook for these costs?
I just saw on Twitter that there is a special train being prepared to take Bush’s remains from Houston to College Station, Texas so he can lie in state there. Then we have the body being transported by Air Force One from there to D.C. to lie in state there.
Then, depending on where he will be buried, transportation to that venue.
These funerals need to be handled just like normal ones, get in over with in three days and lets move on with life.
Why is it classy? An absurd waste of time and money for any former President.

I am sure that I am just one of many to tell you, that Gerald Ford (not Lyndon Johnson who had already met his maker, whoever that was) was sworn in as Nixon returned to California.
