Rush Limbaugh morning update | 1raider1

Just heard Rush Limbaugh's morning update. He said due to Apple CEO's anti free speech "sermon", his cooperation with Apple is over.

They don’t even care about profits. Today’s CEOs are overwhelmingly short-termers who collect jackpot pay and bonuses in a few years and move on, leaving others to worry about the long-term viability of the companies they loot.

The MS lifeline and the return of Steve Jobs saved Apple...

Rush had nothing to do with it...

As corny as I thought it was a the time... Jobs return and the subsequent IMac helped turn Apple Around.....

I love Rush and thinks he gets better every day. He’s truly a national treasure. Just wanted to weigh in after reading a few posts here from the anti-Rush snowflake section of Free Republic.

Even worse---"Here's Calvin in Colorado Springs, who's eleven years old!"

Followed by ten minutes of gushing over the Rush Revere books.

I'd forgotten about Steve Jobs returning to Apple, you're correct in pointing that out.

The main point is Rush had nothing to do with Apple's come-back. Several factors all came together as has been pointed out, that were responsible for giving Apple a chance at Success.

I'm not an Apple fanboy, I have an old iPad Mini 2 that I still use for watching movies while in bed and that's about it. I was thinking about a new Mac Mini and would still like one, that price however stops me. I do shudder when I think about what personal computing would look like today without Apple's presence in the personal computer market. The truth is they heavily influenced the direction of the User Interface and being more friendly and as a result drove innovation in the space.

My own humble opinion of course.

That said, Tim Cook is doing nothing more than tweaking around the edges in regards to Apple's product line. Steve Jobs was the innovator, Tim Cook is a supply-line guy coming from the old Compaq/HP world. You don't get innovation from a supply line kinda guy.

It's no surprise at this point that Microsoft (for better or worse) replaced Apple as the most valuable company given Microsoft's cloud-based strategy with Azure, Software as a Service and more. It's a much more diverse product and services offering than Apple has and I'm thinking Apple is coming to the end of the road somewhere in the next three to five years and will start seriously losing market share absent some brilliant new innovation.

All of those...but they have their market share....and they aggressively periodically bring out solid improvements...some wise guy or groups of wiseguys will eventually make a better product with less market(user) controlling tendencies. I think the android device makers do.the same....but apple is the smuggest self righteous group IMHO...and the common users seem to be oblivious of how the devices work...and the quality and ease of use keep them buying apple.

Well, Tim Cook isn’t going to destroy Apple... Apple has so much cash on hand, and little to no debt... last I checked they could literally, not take in a single dollar in revenue and could continue to operate and pay all their bills and employees for 10+ years just with the cash the have sitting in the bank.

That said, Apple is still dealing with the new realities of the hardware market, in which carriers no longer subsidize upgrades, so the automatic cash printing for the annual phone upgrades, must be earned.. IE you must convince a person to shell out $800-$1200 bucks every 2 years, compared to just a few years ago where it was $200 out of pocket every 2 years.

Apple, while at its core is a hardware company, but it is also a very big services company, anymore, with an ever growing percentage of its revenues coming from services... Itunes, Apple TV, Apple Music, etc... While I think most apple services are overpriced for their offerings, there is no doubt that they are gobbling up more and more revenue from services.

The failing in the last few years IMHO from apple, is that their hardware design decisions, particularly on their laptops, has been subpar. And the mature nature of the smart phone market anymore, means less and less push or innovation is going to astound and awe.

Don’t get me wrong the apple designed chips are amazingly powerful, and I understand why Apple is talking about replacing their laptop and desktop CPU’s with them.

I also understand that their PC business is not their main business anymore... its phones... and generally PC sales have been flat and falling for everyone for a long time... However, in 2016 Apples redesign of the MacBook Pro was a complete miss... hardware specs wise, in terms of processing speeds etc they are fine machines... But the crap keyboard, gargantuan for no reason touchpad, and removal of sd card reader, HDMI port, magsafe, and standard USB ports for nothing but USBC ports were BAD moves... and lets not even get into the gimmic that is touchbar.. its no surprise at all that Apples general bucking of the trend and increasing PC sales ended in 2016...

Unfortunately Apple is not going to admit its mistake on this... it now has 3 revisions of this form factor, and its PC sales took a downward turn in 16, and been flat since.

There is NOTHING pro about a laptop that needs a DONGLE to do anything.... and I do mean ANYTHING...

This MacBook pro is a clear swing and a miss, but 2+ years in, Apple clearly is not willing to concede it.

On the positive side they did finally admit their iMAC Pro was a failure... but that was after 5 YEARS of that failed form factor....

The new Mac Mini is another MISS.... not that its a bad computer, but the 2014 model was a COMPLETE miss.... slow processors, and hardwired ram... just stupid... While they did a much better job with the 2018 Mini, apple, still being apple, priced their base model way too high... at $800.

There is no excuse at all for not having a $500 price point for your base model PC.

Apple isn’t going to go away or out of business under Tim Cook, but it is abundantly clear, he is no Steve Jobs. From the pure numbers side of things, Apple is doing fine, but its clear they aren’t listening, at least on the PC side of things, to the market or their potential customers.

I stopped listening to Rush for this reason. His show is more commercials than talk. Although — I like to listen to Mark Steyn when he subs.

I’m a subscriber and listen to his podcasts. Or at least, I used to. Every time i turn it on now and he starts with “Robert Mueller...Russian collusion...” I just turn it off. I’m sick of it. There is nothing new to talk about with Mueller and if Trump can’t see what is coming with Mueller, then I can’t help him. Rush is sounding as repetitive as Hannity now for over a year.

Wouldn’t that be hypocritical? He won’t promote the product, but still use it?? Isn’t that still supporting the company he disagrees with?

"is over”
Relistened just now. “is over” wasn’t there at all. His concluding words were, and I quote directly, “This new religion of Mister Cooks . . . is a real Ho, ho. Its . . . 'Mary shut up if we don’t approve’.”

Understand, I realize that we all hear what we are willing to. If something doesn’t fit our predilections, it just doesn’t easily hook into our memory.

That’s not what we all like to think of ourselves “but them" - as David Brinkley once said in an opinion quoting Jimmy Durante's signature line - "is the conditions that prevail."

Seems that YOUR the “snowflake,” since you feel the need to insult those who don’t hold Rush up as the “national treasure” that he obviously considers himself to be.

Oh, get real.

Do you think Rush babbles on about home security systems, stupid sheets or whatever other garbage he’s selling because he really believes all the crap he’s spewing? Do you really think it’s NOT for more money?

As I said, he already has more money than he could possibly spend in a lifetime.
There’s no need to undercut his own integrity (what’s left of it, that is) by selling this junk - just to make MORE money.

And, yeah, I think that’s greedy.

OK, so Rush says he’s got enough money and he’s going to stop running any commercials and will no longer take a salary.

Exactly how long do you think the show would last?

Probably a couple of months before it went broke.

Have been in radio and TV broadcasting on both national and local levels, I can tell you most people have no idea how much it costs to run a show like this.

Premiere pays Rush $50 million a year, so how much do you think THEY make.

Here’s what they said about Rush’s show in 2016.

“Premiere Radio Networks and iHeartMedia announced that his show experienced audience growth with 18% growth in adults 25–54, 27% growth with 25–54 women, and ad revenue growth of 20% year over year.”

If Rush stops running any commercials the show is doomed.

If he uses the product without promoting that fact he’s not endorsing anything.

BZZZZZT. Wrong answer.

No one said he should stop running commercials. It’s those endless infomercials DURING his program have gotten so tiresome that I hit the “mute” button every time he goes into one (which is now several times in every program).

Stopping this crap would NOT change the show’s status with the local stations at all - it would simply mean a guy who’s already insanely rich wouldn’t be insanely richer.

How long do these patents stay in effect? Drugs and medical devices have finite patent durations. How does it work in IT?

ALL patents, no matter the subject, have a maximum term of 20 years from the filing date. Of course, many are abandoned at earlier dates when the tech has moved on or for other reasons (e.g., costs).
