Video at link (0.26)

I really only posted this to see if anyone can tell me where to find video of the 21 jet flyover at the Bush funeral?

He is deserving of such a tribute, and I expect it to be awesome!

I can see the match between the traditional 21-gun salute (head-of-state) and 21 aircraft for the flying salute, but, and speaking BEFORE seeing it, I think that this is a case where more is NOT BETTER. When you have the vertical pull-up by Lead-2 from a finger-four 'V' formation, the gap is completely noticeable and self-evident.

Out of a formation of 21? I've never seen such and can only think that it will have some leading formation(s) with the 17 and a distinct gap to the finger-four to then perform the traditional pull-up.

This picture is from Neil Armstrong's funeral and the aircraft are U.S. Navy F/A-18s.

I already knew that he flew an Avenger in WWII. What surprised me about the news report was that his plane was a jet fighter. This is along the same lines as every firearm being an AK-47 in news reports. (The joke loses something when it has to be explained)

TBF Avenger was a torpedo bomber. You are correct.

FYI: here is an addendum of US Military SOP at the burial of a former US President / Commander-in-Chief done at all US Military bases & installations.

On the day of burial, a 21-minute gun salute traditionally is fired starting at noon at all military installations with the necessary personnel and material. Guns will be fired at one-minute intervals. Also on the day of burial, those installations will fire a 50-gun salute—one round for each state—at five-second intervals immediately following lowering of the flag.

I heard a reporter call the S-3 Viking a “submarine jet fighter.” I did not know that the Navy had fighter jets that fly underwater.

You are correct.

About his crew? I didn’t say I believed. I just said he supposedly said. It was a way to mention 2 other crewmen who should be honored, too.

Flying was a big part of my fathers life including a stint in the Navy during WWII as an instructor in Stearman biplanes.

One of his Navy buddies gave the eulogy at his graveside service where much was about their experiences flying in the Navy. It was followed immediately by a flight of four Steamans doing the missing man formation.

It was quite an emotional experience and especially to me as I shared his love of flying and he taught me much of what I know as a pilot.

My 94yr old Dad, a well-decorated WWII Vet, combat engineer w/ Patton’s 3rd Corps Army in France, Central Europe, Rhineland, Ardennes and liberating Bastogne in The Battle of the Bulge, passed on Sept 26th.

A minor correction, if, I may.

Yes we did because Brian Williams said that’s what he used for the rescue.

“Always learning something new, just heard on the radio that George HW Bush’s jet fighter was shot down during WWII but he was rescued by a US submarine. I’ll bet it was by one of our nuclear subs!”

“Ah, modern journalism. Ain’t it wunnerful?

Oh, and the sub used GPS to locate him.“

Those rotten Krauts!

Thank you.
I’ve always heard it referred to as 3rd Corps (assumption being US Army). But wouldn’t that refer to the US Marines? Just wondering.
