A family has been reunited with their cat after it disappeared during a deadly wildfire last month that leveled their home in Northern California. Courtney Werblow and her family returned to her parents' burned home in Paradise over the weekend and found their beloved cat, Timber, standing near the ruins. Werblow recorded a video of the emotional moment when she spots the beige cat with a brown face looking at her from a distance.

There are a number of volunteers who have been feeding the animals in Paradise, most in contact with the pet’s owners. The implication of the article is that the cat’s fate was unknown for a month; the cat hadn’t been seen by volunteers for the last few days before the evacuation zone was opened for residents to return.
Also should be noted that of the roughly 15,000 structures in the town, less than 1,500 survived the inferno; the majority destroyed were homes.
There was another recent story of a persons dog who returned to the burned out house, staying and waiting for its owner to come home. I dont understand how an owner can leave their pet behind in the first place.
The cat didn’t want to be bothered while eating, but still a good story.
Maybe they were running for their lives. Maybe they had to make a split second decision, their children or their pets.
Fluffy says “Where have you slackers been? I’m famished!”
Is this staged? The cat sure looks clean, groomed and fat.
There seems to have been a helluva lot of people out there who don’t give a rip about their pets.
But the big bowl of food seemed to help.
Per friends who live in the area, the Camp Fire started at about 6:30 a.m. By 2:30 p.m. evacuation orders were issued for all of Paradise and Magalia CA. Many people were working and could not get back into their homes, due to limited road access. So people did care about their pets, but could not reach them. Our friend’s pets perished in their home. They are heart-broken.
Many had already left for work when the firestorm came upon the town, please do not be so quick to condemn the owners, many could not get back home, it is a blessing that the dog survived.
That fire was moving VERY FAST. Perhaps one of her 2 dogs wasn’t near the house or was hiding with the heat, wind, and flames. I am VERY sure she didn’t deliberately leave that dog behind.
The cat should be pizzed he was left behind.
Please dont misunderstand, I am not condemning anyone. I should have been more clear, I really didnt get how pets were left behind, several posts gave reasonable explanations.
I can’t imagine the grief and guilt.
