I had that exact Marantz receiver as a teenager after my audiophile mom “upgraded” to lighter components and gave me her old stuff; receiver, Teac top-loader tape deck, Pioneer turntable and massive Pioneer speakers in what must’ve been oak cabinets. Heavy as hell.

Later I “upgraded” to the latest digital offerings and scrapped all that old stuff. I sure wish I at least kept the receiver and speakers.

Our local wine shop has that receiver.

My son drug home a Luxman receiver he bought at a yard sale. It read “Left channel doesn’t work”. A little Deoxit sprayed into the A/B switch and it was working again. I have it playing through a pair of Klipsh KG-4’s that someone gave me.

As a teen in the 70s, after coming into a few bucks a from an insurance settlement, I bought a new at the time really good Kenwood receiver with Koss headphones. Thought I died and went to heaven, as it was the first time I ever heard music of anywhere near that quality. The first album I bought was Boston's debut album.

Could not believe the sound. Drum rolls sounded like they went back and forth inside my head. Super clear deep bass. I had not even heard stereo prior to that. Had an old am/fm transistor radio and a portable cassette player, but both had only a single speaker.
