Watching the video clip, did not know to laugh or take it serious.
Ultra-Orthodox Jews protest military draft
Draft them.
Let them serve with women and be seated on military aircraft piloted by women.
“We will die and not be drafted.”
I’m sure there are some ‘Palestinians’ who could and would happily arrange that for you.
Still, not my country, none of my business.
Relocate them to the Gaza strip and let them see how well they can coexist if there were no borders.
This is an internal Israeli affair. Let them handle it. If they want the ultras to continue to be freeloaders, that’s their business.
They can’t be too orthodox if they can’t follow the dictate of “military service” outlined in the Torah, or for Christians, the book of Numbers where as part of the census, outlines that EVERY male over the age of 20 is considered to be “able to go to war”.
Part of the problem is that many of the Ultra Orthodox spend their lives simply studying the Torah and have no marketable skills in the workforce so they become a net drain on the economy as they have many children.
Pay enough for the freeloaders in my own country.
And that goes for every country that benefits from our largess. Most of Europe can’t even be bothered to fund their minimum defense obligations. Why would they bother with an EU army? The US defends them already.
You make a good point. And the current practice of ultra-Orthodox not doing anything but Talmudic studies seems rather recent. Through history, Jewish men supported their families, and studied when they had time to.
One possible answer: withdraw all police protection from all Haredi communities, tell them they are responsible for their own security. Cancel all welfare too.

Hi.
I don’t understand. Isn’t everyone conscripted in Israel (able body)?

Others reading this might be better able to explain the rationale within Israel, and the cultural changes. I believe the underlying concept relates to the value of Torah scholars to the faith/state. They are exempt from many taxes as well. It’s been this way since the founding of the State when it impacted only a handful, now it’s tens of thousands. Not much different than our draft exemption, since the beginning of the draft in the Civil War, of ministers and priests. Rabbis too. And many serve, as do many Orthodox. In my mind I wonder at the lack of distinction between a Yeshiva student and a Torah scholar. But it’s Israel’s problem to work out.
Draft, national service or no benefits.
