Washington(CNN)Hillary Clinton wrote a letter to an 8-year-old girl who lost an election for class president, telling the young student that she knows "too well, it's not easy" to run for "a role that's only been sought by boys."
"While I know you may have been disappointed that you did not win President, I am so proud of you for deciding to run in the first place," Clinton wrote in her letter to Martha Kennedy Morales, a third grader at a Maryland private school.
"As I know too well, it's not easy when you stand up and put yourself in contention for a role that's only been sought by boys," Clinton wrote.
The Washington Post was the first to report on the letter, which Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill confirmed to CNN is authentic.
Clinton wrote that she heard about Martha's experience running for class president through her father's posts on Facebook about the election.
Martha told CNN in a phone interview on Sunday that she was "really excited" to receive Clinton's letter, dated December 6.
"It was really touching to know that Hillary Clinton herself sent me a letter," Martha told CNN. "That doesn't happen every day."
Martha had decided to run for class president, but lost by one vote to a male classmate in an election that took place two weeks ago. Martha did, however, become vice president.
"It's disappointing to figure out that you lost something that you fought for really hard and you put a lot of effort into it," she said in an interview alongside her father, Albert Morales, Sunday on "CNN Newsroom."
But she said she's happy being vice president: "I'm happy I get to be the tie-breaker when the House and the Senate can't agree on something."
In her letter to Martha, Clinton wrote,

What school has class elections in 3rd grade?
Puke
...but then again Martha, if half the school hated your guts and you had a rep for lying and selling you’re friends out....oh well.
Little Bonnie Saunders won all the popularity votes leading up to the general, but morales had all the support of the teachers, or superdelegates...
What sane person names their kid Martha in this day and age?!
“What school has class elections in 3rd grade?”
a stupid leftard school? How about a congratulations letter to the boy?
I hope Trump sends the “president” a congrats note just to give a middle finger to Hitlery..
How long did it take her flunkies to dig this one out?
Of course it seems the search was limited to private schools.
It’s A Vast Third Grade Conspiracy!!!
Good Lord, now that poor kid will still be nursing her grudge when she graduates from High School.
WTH does she Gino she needs to weigh in on this???
Gino = think
Identity politics is one reason this country is going downhill.

Albert Morales is Senior Political Director at Latino Decisions and based in Washington DC. His years of experience working as a senior official with the Democratic National Committee spans three different DNC Chairs, and one stint with the Democratic Governors Association. In the run up to the 2016 Presidential Primaries, Morales served as Director of Hispanic Engagement and Deputy Director of the partys overall engagement efforts. During Governor Howard Deans tenure at the DNC, Morales spearheaded the partys 50 State Strategy aimed at Hispanic voters. As Chairman Deans Director of Hispanic Engagement, he developed and managed the implementation of new models for how the DNC interacts with the Hispanic electorate in the lead up to the 2008 Democratic Presidential Primary Election. Also at the DNC, Morales served as Regional Political Director for the Committees 2000 Redistricting Project. In this role, he developed a political strategy to work with state parties to promote favorable redistricting plans. He also worked with house and senate caucuses in state legislatures advocating for consensus on redistricting maps.
In between tenures with the DNC, Morales worked for the Democratic Governors Association as Federal Liaison and Policy Advisor to DGA Chairman Governor Bill Richardson. Morales advised the Governor on policy, and supported the efforts of Democratic Governors with regard to fundraising and strategic campaign initiatives. He also served as DGA liaison to Democratic Governors in the Hall of States and the National Governors Association
In addition to working within the political machinery of DC, Albert also has worked with and for business interests. Most recently he served as Vice President of Government Affairs for the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) where he led the Chambers government relations on Capitol Hill, the administration and its membership across the country. In this capacity, Morales worked in concert with high profile corporate brands in promoting policies that would benefit Latino owned businesses. He also championed the Chambers first presidential endorsement process and participation in both the Republican and Democratic Presidential Primaries.
Following the 2010 election, Albert formed Albert Morales Strategies, LLC where he focused on business development efforts with technology firms seeking to enter the government affairs and public opinion space. Mr. Morales also served as a Vice President for Cassidy & Associates. In this role he represented companies from some of the countrys leading energy and financial services sectors with business before the federal government. Mr. Morales was an early adopter of social media and can be followed at @al_morales. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, he now resides in Maryland with his wife Amelia, daughter Martha and several household pets.
So....look where this attention-seeking saga gets people: every predator and sicko in the world knows the name and approximate location of this child. Didn't the parents or Clinton think of THAT risk before trying to wring a 15 min drop of extra fame from this rind?
But of course not...people of this ilk sacrifice all that is sacred - children, family, safety, security, privacy - all in the name of THE CAUSE.
Bingo!!
Thanks.
I would be curious to know if there has ever been a female class president at this school? If so, then this little girl’s loss was based on personality rather than gender.
But go ahead Hill let her think she lost because she’s a girl, that should help her in the future. *eye roll*
Private schools in Maryland.
>What sane person names their kid Martha in this day and age?!<
Wealthy liberals who send their kids to private schools in Maryland (and have probably at some point in the past donated to Hillary Clinton).
If the winner was a boy, those little girls in the class who voted for the boy will be outed and shamed! /semi-sarc/
