I'm a Federal Employee:
self

Posted on 12/22/2018 8:10:58 AM PST by Java4Jay

There are essential and non-essential federal employees. During a shutdown the non-essential do not report to work while the essential MUST or risk termination. Neither group receives pay while the shutdown is in effect. When it's all settled and everyone gets their back pay, the non-essential group received paid days off while the ones that were required to report for duty got shafted.

No offense, but there have been 17 shutdowns since 1970 something. You knew that going in when you took the job.

Right! One can always look for a non-governmental job to avoid these situations.

Stop working for the beast. Get job in the private sector.

Our staff is on mandatory vacation for the next week.

Tough times are ahead for everyone. The difference is when we miss our budget, we close.

I m empathetic to your individual situation, but we cannot keep spending money we don’t have.

Ah but with the Trump administration, non essentials have been identified and may soon be looking for a job while you deservedly keep your job and have the respect of your countrymen

I’m assuming you’re considered essential?

That leads to another question.
Why do we have non essential employees anyway?

This country needs federal employees, so denigrating them with “just quit, work elsewhere” is both disrespectful unfeeling.

I agree the nonessential employees get back pay for days they didn’t work, but that doesn’t mean the essential employees got shafted.

What did Schumer’s office have to say when you and the others in your department called?

poor baby.

All those so called "holidays" you get paid for must be quite a burden to carry as well.

Exactly. And if one is a "non-essential" employee (the term FedGov uses to describe them ....) then exactly why does that job exist?

Seems to me we can probably fund a pretty big chunk of border wall by firing all the non-essential employees!

We don't hear terms like "non-essential employees" in the private sector, do we?!

Tell me again why working for your pay is “getting shafted?”

As am I.

I support the president 100%. Shut it down. Build the wall.

Far better men than me have given their lives for this country. I can give up a paycheck or two.

I was employed by the State of Arizona. Had 16 years in and still got laid off. There is no job security anymore. Even in gov’t. At least the originator of this thread still has a job.
