For the curious, my wife of 38 years is a type two diabetic.
For years its was controlled with diet and exercise but then she had to go on insulin. With diabetes you simply have to have your sugars under control or all kinds of bad things happen.
With extensive studies and hard work she’s been off insulin for 6 or 8? years.
First minimal carbs, no dairy except hard cheeses like Parmesan, real nuts like macadamia, almonds, walnuts, pecans, etc. not regular peanuts. Salads with cooked organic grass fed burger, no dressing, BACON!, pork rinds, etc.
She’d make her own nut butters.
New is the fasting part which she’s working with so I figure she doesn’t know everything so thanks for all your input.
Stay well!
“Starving now because I ate tons of carbs on Xmas. So.... hungry ....” I feel it too.
“saw a video on Netflix about keto where parents of severely autistic kids were transitioned off the standard american carb diet and onto keto. These were kids who were non-verbal, lethargic or violent. After a month or so, the two kids featured had much more level behavior and began speaking, responding to questions, things like that. Miraculous. But the brain loves ketones, it will survive on sugar but it LOVES ketones.”
There is another book “Brain maker” by a Dr. Pearlman, a Neurologist. He talks about the effect of our gut bacteria on brain health. He has a section on Autistic children (adn discusses dementia and alzheimers). Changing diet changes flora and results in positive changes in mental conditions.

Check out “The Complete Guide to Fasting” by Dr. Jason Fung, MD. Fasting if done right can *reverse* type 2 diabetes according to his case histories.

I've got her pressure washing the patio so I do not want to interrupt. ;-)
Not kidding but she put it on her to do list ...

Maybe a later version?
Most toxins are lipid soluble. They get stored in body fat.
A ketogenic diet burns fat quickly, releasing many toxins.
The liver and kidneys are overburdened, and the skin, the largest organ, and a secondary detoxification mechanism, excretes those toxins.
As they are excreted, they cause irritation of the skin: hence, rash.
If you think ketosis and ketoacidosis are "totally unrelated" except for "the syllable" keto, you're the ignoramus. That "syllable" refers to ketones (do you even know what they are?). The level of ketones goes up both in diabetics due to a lack of insulin and an inability to metabolize sugars, and in states of ketosis where the body is deprived of sugars. One is simply a more extreme state of the other, albeit with a different underlying cause. Someone on this thread commented that the difference between ketosis and ketoacidosis is like the difference between a buzz from a few drinks vs. alcohol poisoning. Quite right - alcohol poisoning is worse than a light buzz, that doesn't mean that being in a constant state of a light buzz is desirable either.
Followers of the latest trendy fad diets remind me of followers of new-age religious cults. They get very hostile when anyone doubts their latest miracle cure, especially when someone like you comes along with the obvious alternative of eating less and exercising more.
