Trump EPA orders rollback of Obama mercury regulations
Associated Press ^ | December 29, 2018 | Ellen Knickmeyer

The Trump administration has targeted an Obama-era regulation credited with helping dramatically reduce toxic mercury pollution from coal-fired power plants, saying the benefits to human health and the environment may not be worth the cost of the regulation.

The 2011 Obama administration rule, called the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards, led to what electric utilities say was an $18 billion clean-up of mercury and other toxins from the smokestacks of coal-fired power plants.

Overall, environmental groups say, federal and state efforts have cut mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants by 85 percent in roughly the last decade.

Mercury causes brain damage, learning disabilities and other birth defects in children, among other harm. Coal power plants in this country are the largest single manmade source of mercury pollutants, which enters the food chain through fish and other items that people consume.

The proposal Friday from the Environmental Protection Agency challenges the basis for the Obama regulation. It calculates that the crackdown on mercury and other toxins from coal plants produced only a few million dollars a year in measurable health benefits and was not “appropriate and necessary” — a legal benchmark under the country’s landmark Clean Air Act. …

Yup, guessed right. First sentence, if believed, convinces the naive (e.g., liberal) reader that Trump simply wants to destroy folks for money.

As usual, there is a lot more than this to the story. But, that involves research, science, and math. None are friends of liberals, and all are enemies of journalists. (That’s why they went into journalism, so they could pretend they are actually good at something.)

By the way, if one wants to see tradoffs between health and money, do some GOOD research on Dorkbama the Muslim eunuch quota baby’s administration’s health initiatives.

I may have shortened that last sentence a bit to mislead folks into believing that I respect anything about Dorkbama the idiot. Quite the opposite. He couldn’t hire a competent employee if his sorry low-T life depended on it.

If mercury is so bad why do they put it in flu shots?

Of course we all now have mercury in our “energy saving” lightbulbs.....which will go into dumps in every city and state.

‘Mercury causes brain damage, learning disabilities and other birth defects in children,...’

If it is so dangerous, why do they put it in vaccines as a preservative?

The EPA has been lying about cost-benefit ratios for decades.

Finally, someone with some rationality, who is not driven by fake eco-religion, is in charge.

Mercury IS toxic. Read the MSDS on ethylmercury.

Mercury is in vaccines because manufacturers can’t be bothered with the cost of building sterile facilities.

Regardless of what Obama did or did not do, we don’t need Mercury in the environment.

While you are at it, bring back incandescent light bulbs, too.

Curly light bulbs with mercury inside of them are hazmat disasters waiting to happen.

This is what happens when a President rules by decree and regulations instead of by passing laws. The next president gets to make changes too.

Here come a Judge, Here come a Judge.
**************************************

Probably several judges. And that is why the following NEEDS to happen NOW:

The Senate’s priority now is to EXPEDITIOUSLY approve all of Trump’s judicial nominees.

And for ALL US JUDICIAL VACANCIES, Trump needs to PROMPTLY NOMINATE constitutional conservative judges tor the vacancies.

And lastly, Trump needs to have a roster of fully vetted constitutional conservatives judicial candidates READY for nomination to fill any unanticipated US judgeships that arise because of death, illness, retirement or other reason.

While Trump is president, we need to keep the number of judicial vacancies as close to zero as possible.

Finally, someone with some rationality, who is not driven by fake eco-religion, is in charge.

Remember, The Dose Makes the Poison. It is a simple concept the EPA has generally ignored:

Nearly 500 years ago, Swiss physician and chemist Paracelsus expressed the basic principle of toxicology: “All things are poison and nothing is without poison; only the dose makes a thing not a poison.” This is often condensed to: “The dose makes the poison.” It means that a substance that contains toxic properties can cause harm only if it occurs in a high enough concentration.

In other words, any chemical—even water and oxygen—can be toxic if too much is ingested or absorbed into the body. The toxicity of a specific substance depends on a variety of factors, including how much of the substance a person is exposed to, how they are exposed, and for how long.
