They made some fun music. I recall most of their hits.
The lady in the duo was/is Toni Tennille.
Toni wrote and performed some great songs, many of them ‘very sexy, even for back in the 70’s. One in particular:
“Do It To Me One More Time”. When that song came on the radio, my father turned the station, since my mother was in the car with us. I guess he felt uncomfortable at what that song lead him to think about, in the middle of a Spring day.

Come to find out, she and ‘The Captain’ were not working up a sweat after all. Toni wrote a book after her divorce a few years back. She says she never quite knew if he cared about her or not, outside of the (stage) performances.
She just kept hoping things would finally change. That he would become more expressive. After decades of marriage, that certainty of his affections never really happened to Toni’s satisfaction.

I was quite surprised when I read this. It was rather sad, but not a total surprise. Sometimes the best love, the most exquisite emotion only exists in our imagination.
I have always thought that Daryl had some mild form of Aspergers.

Half Italian half Jewish

It’s a sad story honestly.....

Married 40 years and she claims to have left him in 2014 at aged 74 because he could show or express affection

What we call inability to be emotionally available these days

Usually borne of fear of rejection ultimately

Yet when he’s dying she’s there with him anyhow

Like I sad....truly poignant

I always found her decent looking...

And I was about as into them as I was the Osmonds or Jackson Five

As in none nada zip

I was too cool for all that...lol

Pass that bong and Castaneda would ya

Dragon’s familiar image and stage name came from his time as a keyboard player with The Beach Boys from 1967 to 1972. Beach Boys lead singer Mike Love gave him the nickname “Captain Keyboard”, and it stuck.

I understand the sentimental views about the cute little 70’s duet, but lets not let nostalgia cloud our memories either. Captain and Tennille was pretty much at the bottom of any list of the great music of the 70’s. C&T was consumately schlocky retardedly sentimental and unsophisticated white suburban stepford-wife music with all the style of a Ford Country Squire and largely just a cultural curiosity now. It’s the music non-whites would stereotypically assume whites listened to in the 70’s.

Sad to hear it, I remember their TV show. Married a long time and the Obamacare Holocaust forced them into a divorce.

She may have given that excuse for the divorce, but I heard the real reason was because of the Obamacare medical Holocaust that has so far cost so many people their lives except for Nancy Pelosi, would have pretty much devastated them financially if they remained married, so they divorced. They were self employed and like me found there was no way in hell they could afford the Obamacare scam. A couple I know who live in Brooklyn NY are self employed and had the choice of paying either $2100 a month or going without health insurance. Guess what they did? And now their lives are at risk while Nancy Pelosis isn’t. But I also blame the RINO party. Two years with a majority in both houses and they did NOTHING thanks to John McCain who I hope is having a fine time in hell.

Toni Tennille wrote an autobiography, which I read. Daryl Dragon was extremely emotionally abusive to Toni and the final straw which lead to the divorce was him screaming at her “F$#! You, Bitch!” She’d finally had enough but it took years and years for her to divorce his sorry rear end.

She needs to show up at his funeral in a red dress.

It was all over the news when they first announced it. It’s called a marriage penalty. So they divorced but didn’t separate, they still lived together. He got sick and it was either they get financially destroyed or they divorce.
