I’m thinking the guy has some skills. He was able to steer clear even though in the beginning it really looked like he was totally in the dust devil’s clutches. If it had been me, I think the devil would’ve whipped me around like a limp rag, then slammed me into the ground.
To: Doogle
Whoa!
You don’t see an unexpected takeoff very often.

I was up on Mt. Graylock in MA a few years back, and saw a woman getting ready to take off have some unexpected gusts pick her up, slam her down, and drag her across the ground.
It was most unpleasant to watch. She wasn’t seriously hurt, but the steep dropoff had not been far away.

Years ago I was doing some work in the desert, gathering data and printing it out in the field on a dot-matrix printer with the Z-fold paper.
I saw the dust devil coming at me and laid on top of most of my gear. When it had passed, it had about 30 feet of printer paper swirling around and up, up and away.

I live in a popular area for paragliding. I see them out just about every day and maybe 1 or 2 per year die.

I think in my case, the Newtonian physics of ejected matter might make my uncontrolled takeoff assume the proportions of a Saturn V rocket!

I would had a failure of control and lost propellant rapidly (second inverted spin)
