“iewed the priests, the idols, the temples, and the sacrifices as Satanic and wiped them all of the face of the earth.”

Dunno.

I’ve spent a long portions of my life in the desert SW of the USA (admittedly in various AF bases). Just look at those stone heads in the post above yours. And think of the skull decorations of “Dia de los Muertos” celebrations of Mexican Roman Catholics.

I think it all just got rebranded.

You might be right. But in their day, the Spanish pretty much razed every temple they found to the ground, and wiped out every trace of Aztec culture they could get their hands on—only a handful of Aztec “books” survive. That’s not to say that the memory of these things didn’t survive and become part of Mexican culture.

Modern Mexico has elevated the Aztecs to be the heroes and made the Spanish as the villains in their official history. Mexican archeologists for political reasons refuse to consider that cannibalism was practiced on a wide scale by the Aztecs.

That's pretty much the case for all Christian holidays. They didn't happen on the day they are celebrated, the early Catholic church tried to stamp out previously existing holidays in various cultures by rebranding the holiday as a Christian celebration. The peoples didn't give up their traditions and merged the old with the new.

That's why every Christmas and Easter, and a few Holloweens in years past, we have people posting threads about eggs and trees things being satanic or at least pagan.

"Mexican Catholicism" is an especially deranged cult that shouldn't even be considered Christian. "Dia de los Muertos" is the holiday of the Aztec god of death overstamped by All Souls and All Saints days.
