Several days ago we had a major storm come through which made a huge mess. We have still got branches and tree parts everywhere. One of the tall firs on our property came down and did a lot of damage to a neighbors house.

In the middle of the night I had a hard time getting our generator started. It took a change of the spark plug, starting fluid and many pulls on the 30 year old ten horse Briggs & Stratton before I had the lights back on.

The next day my shoulder was sore but not debilitating. I did some repair work on our house and one of the neighbors roof without any difficulty. The next day my shoulder was still stiff but working OK. I broke out my two old Stihl chainsaws to cut up the large tree that was still on my other neighbors back deck and had done a lot of damage.

The tree was over 100 feet tall and over 3 feet in diameter at the base of the trunk. I hadn't started my chainsaws up for about a year, so they needed starting fluid and a lot of pulls to get them going. The cord on the one with the 30 inch bar kicked back hard on several occasions. But I was able to section the tree into many small pieces over several hours and a few chain sharpening's.

That night I started having severe right shoulder pain. By the next morning I couldn't lift my right hand above my head or take a T-shirt off and on without assistance. It wasn't just the pain which limited my motion, I literally had to lift my right arm with my left arm. My right arm had become almost completely useless. I would not have believed it if it had not happened to me. It turns out that you are more likely to tear things up in your shoulder if it is inflamed from previous activities.

Now several days and a lot of Tylenol later; things seem like they are starting to heal up, but it gave me quite a wake up.

A doctor’s diagnosis is critical.

If the problem is FROZEN SHOULDER (inflamed capsule), surgery will most likely not help.

7 years ago I had this condition and saw a Physical Therapist for 6 months to “unfreeze” the shoulder through periodic and painful manipulation. I accelerated what would have been an 18 month recovery to 6 months by daily HANGING from my children’s monkey bars in the back yard. (I also installed a pull up bar in the pantry door frame as an option for inclement weather). It hurt to hang, but afterwards the shoulder “glowed” and pain was substantially reduced and range of motion increased.

The hanging (brachiation) reduced my recovery by a year. I informed the PT about my research and augmentation of her therapy and got NO objections.

Slipped and fell while shoveling snow 3 years ago. Tore my socket off the bone on my right shoulder, to the socket on my left. Both needed surgery to repair.

Night time Advil was the only way that I could get through the night before surgery. My advice, get a couple of small pillows to prop your arm. Considering the pain and lack of motion, I highly recommend seeing a shoulder specialist.

The good news is that since the surgeries, most of the night time pain is gone and I am only waking up stiff and needing to stretch.

My older brother (68) had a reverse shoulder replacement last year due to rotator cuff and other issues with the joint. His ball of the ball and socket joint is now firmly attached to his shoulder bones/tendons/muscles and the socket is at the north end of the humerus. They did 3D imaging of his joint and had a computer custom design & make the whole thing.

Drop the Tylenol, it’s just liver poison. Use motrin, alleve, asprin or another nsaid.(p)
Could be tendonitis or bursitis which rest and pt would clear up or a shot of cortizone.(p)
Hurt my shoulder 3 mos ago at the gym and finally seeing an ortho next week.

My story may or may not be helpful. If it is it’s probably the second part.

Im played sports where I threw, shot, and toddies a lot. My right arm. Then I played volleyball as an adult and could get above the net, again with right arm. Had a job where I pulled mechanical levers down about 1,000 rimes a day, mostly right arm. Bursitis at 40 and seemed to go away.

Last year at 71, had pain in right shoulder, every time I lifted my elbow or reached. Dr. says go to therapy. They gave me exercises to STRENGTHEN my right shoulder. Pain got worse. MRI, X-ray visit to orthopedist. Orthopedist says, don’t strengthen, stretch. Gave me three different exercises. Pain went away.

Good luck

Also, try CBD for the pain (just “ribbing” you). Get well.

Patient: “Doctor, doctor! It hurts when I do that!” (Raising arm, points at shoulder.)

Doctor: “Don’t do that!”

Sytemic Enzymes, including a highly fibrinolytic enzyme, e.g., Serrapeptase, Nattokinase, and/or Lumbrokinase.
