Today's Cryptogram
1/13/2019 | Nikos1121

Today's Cryptogram:

B'EA QAEAJ VBDKAN U XUQ NAUN, SMZ B KUEA JAUN DIXA ISBZMUJBAD VBZK PJAUZ HCAUDMJA. XUJF ZVUBQ

Some quick clues. WE find the familiar second word with second and forth letters the same. We have a comma, followed by a three-letter word that can only be one of two conjunctions. Then the one letter word that follows, should be obvious. You should have some common letters here before you put your pencil to the paper, which starts your time.

Solution to our last puzzle is in the first reply below.

Please don’t post a “spoiler” solution in the general posting, but you can post it in my private reply.

Feel free to offer the group your solution time and any tips you have on solving cryptograms, as we have many newbies here.

You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications, unfortunately they are copyrighted so we can't use them here. So, we're just going to make up our own.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter.

For example:

AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram)

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.

Send me a private reply if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram.

If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hal’s Helper below:

It’s easier to work on the puzzle without having to use your pencil.

Let me know if you want on or off our Cryptogram Ping List, (currently at 39!)

Solution to our last puzzle:

“B’EA”

I’m guessing that B=I, E=V and A=E.

This stuff is so easy. I’ll just go with “I’ve never” as the first two words at first sight. After that it’s all downhill if I cared to spend three minutes on it. Can we step it up with a more difficult easy cipher? Say, the Vegenere cipher?

Hal is a useful tool.

There are some traditionalists out there who will only print out and do the puzzle with a pencil...

YOu did it!!! 2 minutes is an excellent score. I’m very impressed, considering just one week ago you were going to throw in the towel.... lol

Haha! Ok...I’ll see what I can do, tomorrow. We have a small growing group, whom I want to see continue... Many have just got the hang of it....

One thing you can do, for more challenge, is to decipher one word at a time, going left to right.

Keep em coming....
Although for completeness, I would rather copy the ‘message’ in Morse Code, then take it back in the ‘little room’ in the back of the shack and run it through the decypher ‘machine’ and read the tape....

I have been using the ‘Hals Guide’ so no longer feel ‘right’ in timing it....BUT that is just me...<: <: <:

I’ve seen it attributed to Clarence Darrow. It exists in several forms with different wording and attribution.

Four minutes. That’s some kind of a record for me.

I’m kind of joking. I know this substitution cipher stuff is fun and practical. Anything harder takes much more time and would kill the fun. I’ll pull out a pen and pencil and work on one of your posts soon. It’s so easy to cheat with any computer program these days though. In the old days it was so much fun to try and work them out.

Or we could simply break them into blocks of 5 characters each...

6 minutes. I haven't used any of the helpers yet. Just doing it with pen and paper wanting to jar my brain into staying awake.😂
