We get the luxury of “after the fact” watching a couple of videos and the facts are a little murky.

We were not there. We don't know what threat he saw or felt.
Did you count the number of kids surrounding him\them?

What we did see was a man (and maybe his family) surrounded by a bunch of youths....
In real time that must have been somewhat scary...he gets pushed in the back...
a kid comes at him and he pushes her away.
