Today’s Cryptogram

Today’s Cryptogram

WDGSM LBILYBSKLDB LF CZSMDTFJ NLKO S OSMD. O. Y. NZMMF

Hint: You should recognize the 3rd word is a verb, and that should give you the 2nd letter of the 5th word, which gives you the first letter of the author’s last name. The double letters, should give you a clue to the author’s name. Throw in the single letter 6th word and you’re off to the races on this one.

You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications, unfortunately they are copyrighted so we can't use them here. So, we're just going to make up our own.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter.

For example:

AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram)

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.

Send me a private reply if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram.

PLEASE POST YOUR TIMES, BUT DON'T POST YOUR SOLUTION IN COMMENTS. YOU ARE FREE TO SEND THEM TO ME AS A PRIVATE REPLY.

If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hal’s Helper below:

It’s easier to work on the puzzle without having to use your pencil.

PLEASE NOTE: that should give you the 2nd letter of the 5th word, which gives you the first letter of the author’s last name.

This will NOT give you the first letter of the author's name, but once you decipher the author's last name, it gives you the first letter of the 5th word.

That’s a good score. The shorter quotes are the hardest.

People are getting a bit cocky and I’ve had several telling me that the puzzles are too easy, so I gave you guys a challenge today.

I think, anything under 8 minutes is good. Did you use my hints?

Thanks for the cryptograms but the immediate hints serve only to dispel any interest on my part. I prefer to figure them out for myself. Solving cryptograms is elementary school level. I see the hints and don’t go any farther. Maybe you could stop trying to show how clever you are and maybe put the hints somewhere so they don’t start immediately after the cryptograms themselves.

I avoid the hints by not opening the post. I just copy the puzzle without reading the hints or other people’s posts. After I am finished, I click in to see what people are saying.
Today’s was fun. I guessed the author’s name and that helped a lot.

Thank you for the kind advice.

I’m not trying to be clever. Sorry you think that.

I’m trying to introduce a little daily puzzle that for many was quite confusing at first. So we gave hints at first, then when several people, like yourself were requesting that we not do this, we stopped.

Then we had a renewed request from many for some strategy.

If you notice my “HINTS” are simply methodology. I’m not giving out letters.

But, you’re right, and I thank you for taking the time to give an opinion, and I’ll not provide any hints up front in the future.

Please, continue in support of this page...

Thank you for your post. I think people know I’m not trying to act smarter than anyone.

We’ve had several people wanting to drop out on doing these, but hung in there, and now they’re pros.

I think in the future no hints, unless people want one. I think Hal is a sufficient assistant.

I apologize for putting the hint up at all, but certainly so close to the puzzle itself.

We’re almost at 40 people doing these.

Hal is a real time-saver, without giving any real hints, unless it is that it is much easier to look for the letters with the most and least usage.
I guess if people need a hint, they can contact you privately.

You can hint if you want. I’m perfectly capable of copying the puzzle and not looking further if I want. But if I’m stuck it’s nice to be able to go back and see your hints.
Today I found the Author’s name to be recognizable and that gave me the edge. Still took 8 min.

Wow, way to go, snaking at someone who is putting himself out to share cryptograms for everyone’s enjoyment. There are polite ways to ask in private reply if the hints could be in a separate post, no need to be rude.

This was a harder one. I had to walk away for a few hours after first attempt frustration. Then, came back and used the hints.

Check.....

For a minute I was wondering where the MANDATORY letter etc saying one had to open the link and/or do the puzzle was.

Thanks nikos1121....

I handle like a crossword puzzle....work at it till get stumped, leave and come back.

‘Stopped’ doing CWs as they seemed to get to ‘dumbed’ down and rote.... (That is my story and I am sticking to it)

I’m just like you.

I do the one in the Arkansas Gazette each AM. And it’s the same with me. If I’m stumped, I’ll put it down, then come back.

I “have” to do it, as I feel my day will not entirely suck if I can at least do the puzzle.

Anything under 8 minutes is good in my book. If you can get it under 4 that’s even better.

I get several people sending me via private reply to give them tips on how to solve these. I think the only way it to just do them, and look for some common sequences of crypto letters.

So far, the interest and support has been almost 100%.
