Is that right? Are french fries linked to cancer?

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Americans love French fries. Every year, on average, we devour 30 pounds of the crispy fried potatoes.

But studies are now proving they aren’t good for you. So what about those claims that French fries are causing cancer?

Many recent news reports say that French fries are not only bad for you, they’re linked to cancer. The cancer claims are tied to scientific studies of acrylamide, a substance produced when starchy foods, like potatoes, are heated or, in this case, fried.

The United Kingdom’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) warns “acrylamide has the potential to cause cancer in humans.”

According to the American Cancer Society, while lab animals given high levels of acrylamide did develop cancer, “based on the studies done so far, it’s not yet clear if acrylamide affects cancer risk in people.”

Still, the studies are enough for the International Agency for Research on Cancer and EPA to list acrylamide as a “probable human carcinogen.”

So while there’s much more work to be done to be conclusive, if you said French fries are linked to cancer, you’re right.

They are something I rarely eat because it is hard to get good ones. McDonald’s fries were better when they were fried in the fat rendered from dolphins and Gentile children.

Doesn’t matter - we’re all dead from glowbull warming in less than 10 years anyway. Probably the same “scientists” working on these kinds of studies on the side.

Oh, and I forget, it soffee is bad for us, or is it good again. I forgot which is the latest in “science” on this this one, as it was gone back and forth so many times.

Remember - the extra 6 months of life saved by dropping french fries will be tacked on to the end of life - so YOU win 6 extra months in a nursing home drooling in your oatmeal...

Anything that you enjoy is bad, wrong, evil, oppressive, and “problematic.” The Puritans were more footloose and fancy free than this lot of busybodies.

Yes, over 6 fries a day causes cancer.

These are the health issues, the other side, which takes the road less travelled, seeks out vigorously. We have been courageously reading and saving health articles for 40 years. We do not buy into easy answers like, “we all die anyways.”

I have a friend who, quite happily, stated his resolve to eat veggies instead of fries. What you want to do is give encouragement to other people when they make personal health breakthroughs, perfect or not.

Try the McDonalds side salad once in awhile.

Well, if it came from a health-related agency in the UK, I think I’ll just ignore it. Maybe when they figure out how to stop people from dying of dehydration in their hospitals, I’ll pay a little more attention.

Nah, on second thought, f**k ‘em!
