Good point that often gets overlooked in teacher pay discussions. Teachers only work about 180 days a year, but get paid all year long. Average full time worker in America works 240 days a year.

In Texas teachers also have private retirement system and do not have to pay into social security which means they take home an additional 7.5%.

I pay 7 percent of my salary into that retirement, which the legislature regularly makes worse. It’s misleading.

Who gets paid all year long? I don’t get paid during the summer and neither does any other teacher I know. How would you like a mandatory lay-off?
