Not just in the USA - in Europe too. In Europe we can all see how the USA has committed "self-slaughter" as Hamlet calls it, through decades of mass immigration.
We want to avoid this. Whether we can or not, is another matter.
Most legal immigrants to the USA are from Asia - mostly India and China.
But it does not matter where they are from - every single one is another nail in the coffin of the fine America we knew and loved, and can still see in newsreel and photos up to 1970.

Nope. Sorry. They haven’t. When we took in a huge wave in the past we followed that with a near moratorium until we had been able to assimilate those we have.
Now we need to send home 10s of millions of largely low-skill illegals among us — and we expressly don’t need to replace them with the same, rebranded as “legals”.
Yeah, I’m fine with some high-skill folks coming in, but we have undercut our lower-skill fellow Americans and need to stop that. Need to invest in tech and better working conditions in industries such as ag that have developed subcultures of work cesspools and squalor for illegals.
When a US citizen loses his or her job to a legal indentured socialist 3rd world immigrant you get two socialist for the price of one. The laid off screwed over US citizen, from then on, votes Democrat the rest of their life.
Trump has made many conflicting statements on immigration. When, as here, he sides with the cheap labor express, he needs to hear loud and clear from his base that this is not acceptable.

A 12 -year experienced field machinist get 130,000.00 to 150,000.00 per year. A shop machinist earns “only” 80,000.00 to 95,000.00 per year, but they have no travel and much, much less overtime.
Safety tech, millwright, crane operator make 80,000.00 to 90,000.00 per year.
About double what a “ill-ed” teacher makes from her government job.

Dirt-stupid simple stick welders can get up to 16.00 per hour!
The machine-skilled TIG pipe and repair welders, all qualified and certified to AWS/ASME standards I use get double that to start, more after 2, 5, 8 10 years, etc. Plus time and a half on Saturdays and overtime each night, plus double time on Sundays.
We’re non0union, but hire union welders and machinists when needed. Same rates.
if that is stopped it stops most immigration.

Too many to assimilate.
$16/hr($30K/yr) is not going to support a family or an individual for that matter. Those are basement wages.
Most “CNC machinists” are little more than machine tenders, capable of watching te machine go, and changing tool bits when needed. if they have the judgement to determine “when needed” is. Some don’t.
Look at the wages for real field machinists. Not shop wrench turners, parts loaders.
