I understand that a dog who has killed livestock needs to be put down if it gets out again. My objection is letting the dog lay there and suffer. Why so many leg shots? After the dog was down, it should have been humanely dispatched immediately.

Two words would have kept the dog in obedience— invisible fence— the owner has no one to blame but himself.

On the Twitter thread, another neighbor has spoken up and said this particular dog had never done anything to livestock or run loose.

Someone replied “So what. All Huskies look alike.”

Nice.

Like I said, I would put 1,000 huge hogs on 3 acres adjacent to his property. Not a damn thing he could do about it, either.

Once the dog learns the “fence” is only ten feet deep those things don’t work. It generally takes them a few weeks.

Funny you should say that.

The guy up the hill from me [who lets his cats run amok, feeds stray cats to the point where we had a rabies endemic, and sues every neighbor whose house “offends” him to the point where important, historic homes have been torn down or significantly altered beyond recognition] once turned his attention on my house.

It’s an history 18th century log house that belonged to the blacksmith and part of a ‘trail west’ village consisting of hotels, inns, wainwrights and the like.

But it wasn’t “fancy” enough for him so he told a neighbor he was going to “use his pull” to force us to fix it up or tear it down.

My dad found out about this and let it be known he was about to fence in the field 50 feet behind said neighbor’s house, right in full view of his inground swimming pool, to start a hog farm.

And that was the last we heard about our house being “offensive”.

:)

My Border collie would be a goner. Glad I don’t live there!

Not to mention if the livestock is part of your special breeding program the loss is greater than the value, breeding programs can be years in the making. Often the loss is greater than the value and as you say there is labor involved.

Well trained stock dogs work the livestock in a quiet, controlled manner which does them no harm, and keeps stress level down of the livestock so doesn’t interfere with health, growth, or weight gain.

That is far different than untrained dogs running stock for the fun of it. Not to mention the chase at some point if not ended will end up with dogs actually physically injuring or killing livestock.

“Police insists killing was not...”

Not sure, I trust the Police on subject of shooting people’s dogs.

In the State of Kansas, dogs bothering livestock may be shot, no questions asked. That’s the law.

Just trying to imagine the police officer who received the call...”I’d like to report that my neighbor, John Smith, shot Donald Trump.” That’d be worth at least 6 cups of coffee in terms of waking someone up.

Or a shock collar.

They are called Trash Breaker for a reason.

Works on car chasers as well.

"but I thought some dogs chased cows! Don’t sheep dogs do that to “round them up”?”

Yes, some breeds of dogs are trained to help round up cattle but "Donald Trump" was the rancher's dog, wasn't the right breed and wasn't rounding up the cattle.

It had killed the rancher's livestock, was warned to keep his dog under control and was promptly shot as a nuisance dog.

"His husky had killed the neighbor's goats BUT the husky owner paid for them! ”

Sorry but the dog killed his cattle(goats)Had the owner been a Hillary supporter and the dog named "Obama" the ranchers still had the right to protect his herd from irresponsible dog owners.
