There is no penalty for being wrong. They will just quit reporting it. Most Americans will never know the difference, because they are not paying attention.

Exactly. The MSM isn't "falling" for hoaxes, they are a knowing, active participant in perpetrating them.
Funny thing about the hoaxes the MSM keeps "falling" for... They almost always follow along with or advance the current leftist/socialist agenda or talking points, they are always sensational (or are made so) in order to promote traffic on MSM news propaganda sites.
