Historically, women married men who could support and protect them in a world which could be harsh and dangerous.
Several decades of safety and prosperity have made modern Western women think this selection criterion is no longer relevant. If things ever fall apart, and their survival hinges on what type of man they've attached themselves to, they will find out how wise their choices were.
Men can no longer guarantee any of those things.
