The mountain lion a Colorado runner claimed to have killed in January was a young kitten, according to wildlife officials.
Travis Kauffman, 31, strangled and bludgeoned the cat to death on Feb. 4 at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space in Larimer County, Colorado Parks and Wildlife said in a necropsy report published by Fox affiliate KDVR.
The mountain lion was determined to be around 3 to 4 months old and weighed 24 pounds at the time of its necropsy. The animal was scavenged after its death.
Kauffman told reporters earlier this month that he engaged in what was "just like a wrestling match" with the lion, after it attacked him while he was running alone.

There are some comment posts elsewhere expressing sympathy for the ‘kitten’ and saying they always had doubted the guy’s story from the beginning. Don’t forget that a Mountain Lion, even when just a few months old, can be very aggressive and dangerous. Some already have claws almost two inches long.
One look at his emergency room photos will tell you he got messed up pretty bad. This was no “Jussie Smolett” situation.
24 pounds? I have a domestic cat that weighs that much...

A 24 lb mountain lion can inflict plenty of damage, but it's STILL funny.

We have a @13 lb cat I lock out of our bedroom at night. I do NOT trust him. He attacks without mercy at times.

Nice photo but the story mentioned that he tumbled down a slope and more than likely sustained most of his injuries then. The only wound that is definitively attributable to the cub is the puncture wounds on his wrist. In the end, was he attack and the answer is yes but there’s more to this that’s not being reported. Cheers!
