I was always given to understand that Marilyn Monroe killed Marilyn Monroe, through accidental or deliberate drug overdose.

“Ahhh, that little farce you played with my sister. Did you think that would fool a Corleone?”

This guy sounds like a real player, even if the Carlo Rizzi part called for him to act like a schmuck.

Great article.

I read the whole article and this is a guy so full of himself it is impossible to know if there is any truth in his account.

Wow.

Some of the characters were obviously take offs of some real people. I always wondered who the actress was who was ruined by the Frank Sinatra type guy.

Maybe no one but maybe some one.

Always wondered, when a mobster dies they say he sleeps with the fishes.

When a fish dies, do other fish say he sleeps with the peoples?

“Hollywood Godfather: My Life in the Movies and the Mob” by Gianni Russo.

Excellent read! Looks to be a book I'll buy. I never knew that "Carlo" in The Godfather movie was a real mob guy. Fascinating how he got the job and his relationships with gangsters and movie stars - particularly his affair with Marilyn Monroe. And then there's the bit about JFK doing lines of coke off the backs of stars, whoa!

A number of years ago a book came out written by the son of a big mafia boss (I can't remember the name, but the book is in my mafia box in the attic) who detailed what actually happened.

It wasn't Bobby who did it. He went to visit her shortly before a mob gang of three went into her home and put a drug-laced suppository into her rectum which killed her, and they then staged it to look like a suicide.

Yeah, and I’m still convinced Bates killed that lady in “Downton Abbey” too......

I once had a general manager who bragged to a captive employee audience about once being Sam Giancana’s dinner guest on his yacht.

He stared at me in particular while extolling how much more powerful and charismatic the mobster was than a common nobody.

I was a Christian, a conservative, and a sober, reliable employee. The coke-snorting GM despised and disparaged me.

That incident confirmed my lifelong boycott of The Godfather.

I prefer to watch heroes celebrated, not villains glorified.

Why do some people act like catching a buzz and having sex is more fun and exciting when celebrities are involved? Is it also more exciting to relieve yourself on a celebrity’s toilet?

The fact that this guy was neglected by his parents is tragic. The fact that he had sex with Liza Minnelli is boring.

Wow this is funny, what a coincidence. I never read the Godfather book before so I picked it up and started reading it last week not realizing it was the 50th anniversary of it. I always thought it was written in the early 1970s but actually it was written in the 1960s and published 1969. What a great book. What stuck me was how close to Sinatras life he wrote the part of Johnny Fontaine. No wonder Sinatra wanted to kick his ass. That whole story of the mob threatening Harry James to let Sinatra out of his contract, same thing went on in the book with Fontaine. And then like Sinatra begging for the part of Maggio in From here to eternity, oops Fontaine goes through the same thing as well. Puzo had to do that on purpose. He even describes Fontaine as being divorced from his high school sweetheart like Sinatra and he’s dating the hottest actress in town like Sinatra.

True Story:

When Marlon Brando found out Gianni Russo was hired as an actor in The Godfather, Brando complained to Francis Ford Coppola and others. He had no real acting chops, and Brando objected.

Russo confronted Brando, and told him he and his mafia buddies would break Brando's legs.

Brando thought he was acting. Brando went back to Coppola, and told him his initial reaction was wrong. This guy Russo was an amazing actor.
