I live on a river that flows into Lake Erie. Does this mean that the citizens of Toledo can sue me if I pee in the river?

This brings up the Michigan-Toledo War of 1835. Michigan fought Ohio over the possession of Toledo. Michigan won! Ohio was stuck with Toledo.

(for all you history buffs, Ohio won. However, in compensation, Michigan was given the Upper Peninsula. We gained "Da UPpers".)

That is one of my favorite historical quips, so I’ll repeat it: Michigan and Ohio fought a war for control of Toledo. Ohio lost.

A war I never heard of.

They have been fought over less.

Not a single shot was actually fired in the Toledo War.
The only casualty was a guy who got stabbed.

The Michigan Militia did occupy Toledo, but the Ohio Militia got bogged down in a swamp near Bowling Green. Before they could make their way out Andrew Jackson had fired Michigan’s territorial governor and Congress was working on a fix.
