A Mississippi man allegedly killed his wife and friends when his wife wouldn't let him drive home drunk from her birthday party, officials said.

Michael Barnhill, 30, was celebrating his wife Marlee Barnhill's 27th birthday at a friend's home in Carroll County on Friday, Fox affiliate WLOV-TV reported, citing the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.

The man, according to Sheriff Clint Walker, became "drunk and belligerent during the course of the event" while the group of friends were "having a nice time together."

Marlee, upset with the way her husband was acting, took away his keys "to prevent him driving away in his drunk state." The sheriff said she "was trying to do the right thing to protect his life and the lives of other drivers."

But when his keys were taken away, Michael allegedly got a pistol from his truck, slapped a cigarette out of Marlee's hand and shot her in the chest, according to investigators. Michael then allegedly shot the party hosts, Jim Harrell, 44, and his wife, Brooks Harrell, 39, when they tried to intervene.

An angry drunk.
He’s displayed that behavior before, but likely not to that extreme.
Tequila or vodka?

I always find it slightly comical that people demand the death penalty for drug dealers but have no problem with legal alcohol.

POS drunk has to wake up in jail with a skull-crushing hangover and come to grips with what he did.

Reminds me of that Coast Guard asshole a couple years back who murdered his wife after getting drunk at a friends' wedding. Woke up in the bushes and didn't remember any of it.

True. But weed too gives people a “I do not give a fck” aggressive behavior. Several times I was confronted by an angry dude, somewhat intimidated, only to find out he was high on pot and I could have confronted that had I known. Someone on drinks, you can tell he is belligerent in part due to alcohol, but not with weeds except if you smell it.

I used to own a bar {back in the 70s} and had to deal with many, many obnoxious drunks {and some times being one myself}.

When we had local bands, the young'uns, would get really fired up and wanted to prove their toughness.

I carried a black jack and a 38.

Never had to use the 38 and rarely had to use the black jack.

They knew that I'd never hit them in the head, but I would break their collar bone with one quick blow and they'd go down like a sack of potatoes.

Since it became well known that I had no reservation about breaking their collar bone {let'em sue} I think it only happened 2 or 3 times.

Just like little kids that know if they screw up, they will get an ass whippen, these big kids knew the results and took care of each other.

The boys that were still sober took charge of their drunk, obnoxious pals, and we had very little real trouble.

We were in the 'making money business' and did not want to hurt our customers, but couldn't let a bad drunk get out of hand.

I’d say you don’t know much about how drug dealers operate.

All persons under the influence of a drug they voluntarily took that let them do something illegal should be tried as though the crime was premeditated and a hate crime.

In other words, they willfully took away their ability to be sane, so try them for what comes from willful insanity.
