Manuel Henriquez, who was also the top executive investment giant PIMCO until 2016, will be replaced as CEO and chairman of Hercules Capital in Palo Alto. Henriquez was arrested in New York City and released on $500,000 bail after a brief appearance in Manhattan federal court Tuesday. According to court documents obtained by KPIX 5, Henriquez and his wife, Elizabeth, paid a $25,000 bribe to get a [legal proctor] cooperating witness to sit “side-by-side with [their] daughter [Isabelle "Izzy" Henriquez] during the exam and provided her with answers to the exam questions, and after the exam, he “gloated”…about the fact that they had cheated and gotten away with it.” Shares of the hedge fund plunged 9 percent on word of Henriquez’ arrest Tuesday.

I don’t see how this could happen unless she claimed a “learning disability” and was allowed to take the test with her “emotional comfort proctor” sitting next to her.

I just bought a chunk of Hercules stock about a week ago. It dropped 10% in a day. It went back up a little today, probably on the news that the CEO resigned. Since they pay a 10% dividend, if it holds the same position for the next year, I will at least break even.

Cest la vie.

How could the school NOT know what was going on?

Some strange person, in their 30’s, shows up to take the SAT’s with all the teenagers? But nobody asked who this person was or why they were there?

...?

Let us not forget that the Lion of the Senate himself, Ted Kennedy, was caught having a friend take an exam for him while attending Harvard. So do not rule out a bright future for any of these young, affluent cheaters.

Is that the outfit she wore to take the exam? Certainly would have distracted most male proctors.

She’s a hispanic woman...double minority.

How bad were her scores that she still needed to cheat her way in?

Isabelle ["Izzy" Henriquez] received a score of 1900 out of 2400, a 320-point improvement from her previous score, according to the [federal] complaint—although likely still too low to gain admission to Georgetown without spectacular extracurriculars and character references. Fortunately for Isabelle, according to the complaint, [Rick Singer's Edge College & Career Network, also known as] The Key was able to provide those as well. Federal investigators allege that the Henriquezes conspired with 'The Key' to bribe Gordon Ernst, Georgetown’s head tennis coach, into designating Isabelle [Henriquez] a tennis recruit, despite her notable handicap of having never played in a tennis tournament during her entire high school career.

Young Teddy Kennedy got himself kicked out of Harvard in the 1950s, for having a friend take his Spanish exam.

When my daughter graduated from high school, there were several people in her class-good students- whose mothers, no doubt got them the status of “learning difficulties” or the best “test anxiety” . They got to take the ACT or SAT over a matter of days at their convenience at their own pace. Needless to say they scored well. My daugher also could have gotten a much higher score if I had lied about her to get her special privileges. A lot of us were furious, but it goes on all the time and they don’t have to disclose to the colleges that they had more time to take the test.
