Multiple lawsuits have been filed for more than $500 billion against elite universities and those implicated in the college admissions scandal that helped wealthy Americans cheat their children's way into school. Two Stanford students filed a $5 million class action suit on Wednesday claiming they were denied opportunities to get admitted to Yale and USC and have now had their degrees devalued in the wake of the recent charges.

Good strategy. Sue for $500 billion and settle out of court for $1 billion. :)
How does one provide any evidence to support a claim for damages in a case like this?
"I'm working at McDonald's now because Yale prevented me from pursuing my career as a Wall Street CEO when they didn't accept me in 2005" is not likely to get you very far.
The fallout will be ongoing. The IRS hasn’t even started yet.
Test scores.
their charity scam cheated you too, get in the line!
oh wait, government’s gonna confiscate punitive damages and fines first, and then the class action suit lawyer is going to take 50%.
Would you settle for a $5 off coupon?
Ya know, considering how much grief “higher education” has inflicted on the nation, I find it very hard to be even slightly sympathetic to their plight.
"Teaching girls" was all the rage among progressives.
Even gave the corrupt Obamas a way to scam $100 million of our tax dollars.

Then-F/L Michele, her mother and daughters in the Moroccan palace.
Look at that smile----Obama gave her $100 million tax dollars----"to teach Muslim girls in Morocco."
AND GET THIS: The $100 mill is to be held by the Obama Foundation, to be doled out when necessary (cue laugh machine here).
==========================================
NOTE WELL: The $100 million "for Muslim girls" came out of the Millenium Challenge Fund at the State Dept----Hillary's fave slush fund.
ACTION NOW: Demand the books be opened-----taxpayers demand to know where the Millenium funds are going.

My bet is someone has seen some electronic communications at these various institutions regarding the merits of applicants. If so, I imagine those comms would be subject to discovery if cases went to trial.
Now is the time to call for defunding these universities and forming a commission of higher ed to evaluate each and every university on content and curriculum before handing out tax payer dollars. Any university not complying will be forced to fend for themselves
Many universities started as divinity schools (e.g. Yale, Harvard). Too bad that aspect of spirituality isn’t part of their mission anymore.
William F. Buckley, Jr.
what about the corrupt JUDGES from Yale and Harvard
and the rest of the $$$$-payoff system who
now pollute the courts?
In order to successfully sue someone for $5 million you have to prove that you've suffered damages in the amount of $5 million.
How does someone prove that their failure to get admitted to Yale has cost them $5 million? Yale can produce plenty of evidence to show that many of their enrolled freshman don't graduate because they drop out, fail out, and occasionally even get arrested and go to prison. And even those who do graduate don't ALL get highly-paid jobs.
Something else to remember here is that nobody who is applying to a college (especially a private one) has a legal claim on a seat in a college. Depriving someone of admission to a school doesn't take something away from him that he OWNS ... so a major hurdle here in these lawsuits is that a plaintiff is first going to have to demonstrate that he even has the legal standing to file the suit in the first place.
Not to mention taking a good look at the billions held in endowments...
Do you really think any of these institutions want to risk a trial?
It will never get that far. They will settle.
More’s the pity.
Will they ever investigate the Chinese kids massive cheating to get into undergrad and grad school. Many are essentially, functionally illiterate with respect to English. I saw this first hand as I worked with several brilliant Chinese researchers as the wrote papers and dissertations.
I'm wondering how far up the ladder this goes? How many top tier politicians got into office because of falsified credentials? How many federal judges?
Or, will the CPSD do what it always does, viz. protect the guilty? (CPSD = Clinton Private Security Detail, aka, FBI)
That's my point. They'll never even get to a trial if they successfully petition the court to dismiss it up front on the basis of the plaintiffs' lack of standing.
These colleges CANNOT settle claims like this from applicants who were rejected. Collectively, the colleges involved in this scam have probably rejected hundreds of thousands -- if not millions -- of applicants over the years. Unless the plaintiffs are willing to settle for $500 apiece, the schools simply don't have the money to pay settlements of that size.
