Crime in Newark may be declining but the citys youth remain disproportionately exposed to violence. Its claimed the lives of far too many young black men.
In a five year span, there were 122 young male homicide victims between the ages of 15 to 24, according to sobering findings from the Advocates for Children of New Jersey. The Newark Kids Count report, released Thursday, shows homicide is the leading cause of injury-related deaths for the citys young men, accounting for about 75 percent of those fatalities

Mayor of Newark 2006 to 2013.
How many of the “victims” were gang members or involved in illegal activities, versus how many were actually innocent victims?
The death of an innocent is a tragedy, while the death of a gang-banging hoodlum is significantly less tragic.

It’s a good start, but there is no way your post abortion activities can compete with how many black babies we killed at Planned Parenthood.
“Youth”, eh?
Wonder why the descriptions couldn’t perhaps just maybe more specific in order to aid in the search for a solution.
One way to look at this is that because these 122 ‘yutes’ were removed from society an indeterminate number of their contemporaries are probably alive.
Very good point.
When you are making 100K to 200K a year tax free selling drugs on a corner and someone else shows up on your corner stuff happens.
Culture matters.
About 27 percent of the citys population of 285,000 residents are living in poverty and 32 percent of families with children are living in poverty, according to the Kids Count report. That percentage has remained largely flat since 2014.
are they “exposed to” violence or “the perpetrators” of violence
answer: both?
what goes around, comes around...
Not surprising given that this is the same demographic committing all the violence.
But there is no Whitey anywhere around that they can blame.
I was born and raised in Kearny, just across the Passiac River from Newark. My late-mother-in-law lived in Newark 75 y years ago, it was beautiful city then. As a kid my mother would take me and my sister to Bambergers(anyone remember that store?). That was long, long time ago. Then LBJ’s Great Society came along and like every Democrat controlled city the decline began. The riots of 1967 put the nail in the coffin of Newark, New Jersey. 52 years later and the place has never recovered.
Note to self: Cancel this summer’s planned “Walking & Goodwill Tour” of Newark.
Spartacus will blame Trump.
And in the vast majority of cases, who were the persons who killed the young black men of Newark? Other young black men.
Guns are not the killers, The killers are persons with moral behavioral problems who think killing someone else is O.K. Even in Newark, and even though they predominately come from the “black” community, they always are a minority in that community, and it is their own community that is their primary victims.
If government money must be spent (and I am not saying it must) the answer is not to throw that money at that community, where it is. It is to offer help for the good people to get out, to leave, to go where they can raise their kids with better schools and less crime. Promising them help to remain where they are, with “improvements”, for over fifty years has just kept them hostages to the criminals among them, and repeated calls for federal spending to “help” the folks there. Help them migrate internally instead.
Perhaps these young men shouldn’t have joined in black gang violence.
Cory Booker had tears of rage. /S
