I wonder what they said when they saw the tsunami approaching.

Thanks.

It’s remarkable how things tend to stay where they are unless something moves them. My basement provides compelling evidence of this observation.

Yep, truly fascinating stuff and Douglas Preston did a great job on it.

The [trivial] thing I keep coming back to is: The bigger the crime, the harder it is for you to cover it up. Eventually, some detective is going to uncover direct evidence that’ll tell the full story, and prove your guilt to the world - even if it’s 66 million years later, lol.

Just as remarkable is the “settled science” is NEVER settled. Just look at the new theories in abundance here that have emerged in the past few decades and the new evidence unearthed to support them.

The anti-science Democrats would never allow this.

I understand. I don’t blame you. And I do feel a little guilty. But, darn it, I enjoyed it! What can I say? In my defense, it’s the first New Yorker article I’ve read in maybe 10 years. I’m sure they didn’t profit from it as much as I did!

It’s a great story, but I regret to say there is still the possibility that it’s a fraud. DePalma lacks credentials as does his boss at the museum who is working with him at the site. The more I think about it, the more I have my doubts.

No insult intended; there are a lot of places that will never get my “click”.

That’s true. But he does apparently have Alvarez in his corner. That’s no little thing. However, there is indeed, still the very real possibility this find is being over-hyped. We’ll just have to wait and see.

The evidence has been pouring in the last several years that point to an astronomical event that brought the end of the last Ice age. There are many places to find these reports, but I think one off the top of my head is https://cosmictusk.com . One can find plenty of reading material in terms of real scientific reports on the theory.

Have fun as its an astounding rabbit hole of which I have been down for four years now while working on my third book..

Then there is Graham Hancock and Randall Carlson. Just google Randall Carlson and pick a podcast that he has been on. After three hours of listening to Randall, you will be taken a how many times this Earth has been shaken to its core and bounced back tine after time after time. Earth is a story of Kataklysmos (sic).

None taken, and I completely understand and even concede it is a more principled stand than mine. But if someone puts up an article like this, it’s going to be irresistible for me, no getting around it. I’m going to stop there because I don’t want to appear to be trivializing your objection, when it is clearly NOT trivial. Cheers!

Wow!

What a terrible day that must have been.

I’m glad our rodent/insectivore ancestors were burrowing underground at the time!

Indeed! My basement also provides compelling evidence.

Out here in the North West, it is Earthquakes on our worry list.

If you like a good science lesson on recent and historic earthquakes and the fascinating sleuthing that can predict big seismic events from past events.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ7Qc3bsxjI

Central Washington University geology professor Nick Zentner discusses field evidence for great earthquakes in the Pacific Northwest including buried soils onshore, turbidites offshore, and CWU Geology’s PANGA data from GPS receivers.

The Younger Dryas impact theory is gradually displacing the previous theory of the Younger Dryas origin. The shift so far exactly mirrors the paradigm change theory described in Kuhn's Structure of Scientific Revolutions.

Here is a web site devoted to the Younger Dryas impact theory:
