They are only asking if they are citizens, not if the are legal/illegal.
How DARE the Trump Administration try to find out how many citizens the nation has? That is clearly racist!
Counting people by race is okay though, but not if you count too many racial groups. It would marginalize blacks and hispanics (and reduce democrats' racial gerrymandering power) if you break them down into smaller groups.
