Stupid and nasty cops serve only to give good cops a bad name. There’s probably not enough information here to make a call as to whether the initial cop reacted appropriately.

The "good" cops who defend their actions, no matter how inappropriate, over the top, excessively violent, or flat-out murderous give all cops a bad name.
They must clean their own houses, as difficult and unpleasant as that may be.
Else demagoguing politicians and community disorganizers will do it for them, and that will be FAR, FAR worse!
