Bees Send Rangers Pitcher Running, Empties Out Seats At Angel Stadium

The fifth inning was delayed while officials dealt with the swarm of bees, which sent a pitcher warming up in the Rangers bullpen running for cover and emptied out seats beyond left field. Angels pitcher Hansel Robles was spotted in the dugout with a towel wrapped around his head and neck, swatting bees away with another towel.

It’s not the first time bees have delayed a game at Angel Stadium – swarms also put a stop to the play against the Toronto Blue Jays in 2016 and the Seattle Mariners in 2013.

Ironically enough, the Angels’ minor league team is called the Salt Lake Bees.

Some years ago I had an abandoned car on my property. I wanted to get rid of it so I called a junk yard and they brought out a tow truck. Big, burly guy gets out. Tattoos, beard, overalls, the full stereotype. He bent down and looked all underneath the car.

I said, "What are you looking for?"
He said, "Bees. If I start towing this thing and there's a bee hive underneath here, it's gonna be bad."
I said, "What would you do then?"
He shrugged: "Probably run and scream like a little girl."

California DEC will undoubtedly do a full investigation to determine if any bees were inconvenienced.

Swarms are not as bad as disturbing a nest. They don’t have a bunch of work and energy to defend so they are more tame.

When moving a swarm, it is helpful to first give it a good spraying of sugar water.

In a pinch, in a ball park, coca cola would do

Highly aggressive African bees can be found pretty much anywhere in the USA where it doesn’t snow.

And replacing the Africanized Queen with a regular European Queen will calm down the hive significantly after about six or seven weeks.

Only the queen lays eggs. The life span for a worker bee is about 6 weeks.

The only problem is if a newly hatched European Queen in impregnated by an Africanized Drone.

A few years ago, I ran over a ground nest in my back yard with my lawn mower.

I had no idea I could still run so fast!

I slammed the patio door and thought I was safe. When I went to sit down to catch my breath, I felt a burning sensation in my leg. I realized then that I had several bees in my pants leg!

I had no idea I could get my pants off so fast!
